We are forming a Greek Phallanx group for the game and are looking for players who wish to join the group as either Phallanx troops, skirmishers or support classes. If you are interested in joining the ranks and getting involved please join our forum:

We are currently trying to organise a bulk kit purchase to get costs down and we are getting ready for the new system so if you have ideas and want to contribute come on over and get stuck in and lets show these barbarian kingdoms who the real Heroes are!

It may just have seemed a good idea at the time when some distance into a New Years party but allow me to introduce

Roman Arena Gladiatorial Entertainment!

RAGE! provide entertainment to the masses. Opportunities for all sorts, over the top acting and a willingness to fight in a theatric style. Willingness to play along with soap opera style storylines and play with blood effects also an advantage.

Not 100% on whether the concept would be a good one but it seemed a good idea at the time.

Contact via messageboard if interested in something a bit non-serious.

GlasgowPhil: My first thought (other than 'awesome!') was 'they have created the ancient world's answer to the WWF'. Are we gonna get to see cage fights, chair fights and crazy, overblown stunts?

I shall stock up on the ocelot noses and lark tongues in anticipation.

Serenity: Sparks, bitter divorcee and mechanic.

Insurrection: A series of short-lived trouble makers.

Name: Elysian Mysteries/Cult
Culture: Greek
numbers: tbc

I'm looking to get a group together for some culty goodness. The Elysian mysteries were a mix of Dionysus and Persephone worship, very mysterious, with secret ceremonies, initiation rites, and all sorts going on! I'd love to get a group together, a mix of priests/priestess's, warriors, anyone really, who wants to be involved in a loud, very obvious cult, who makes their presence known! Big Dionysian rites, followed by screaming dances/runs through the site, lots of Gate stuff. A lot of 'us only' stuff, to reflect the fact that this is a cult.

The good thing is, as this is a religious cult, you can be a member of a warband/other group quite easily, and still be involved!
I'd love to hear from anyone interesting in playing priestly types, especially of Dionysus or Persephone!

So, if this sounds like something you'd enjoy, please get in touch - either PM on here, or email wychboy@hotmail.com

**Edit: Apologies, but this group concept has been heavily revised. See the later post for the group "Children of Bellerophon". I have kept this post up as it's referenced in subsequent posts. **

Working title group name: Dio and the Xanthonauts

We're putting together a ragtag band of 10-15 mercenary sailors under the Greek banner, with an emphasis on organised combat, personal gain and embarking on quests. We're looking for, well any Greeks, Persians or Egyptians playing any class. You'd have to ally yourself to a Greek God/State but we'd welcome Egyptian Physicians, Persian Archers, Greek Philosophers etc, in addition to warrior types. As children of the sea the obvious choice of God for us to follow is Poseidon.

Ideally the setup will be something like this:-

The Leaders
* We may have a Strategoi - this position is up for grabs!
* Oracle. Not really an official leader, but an avuncular (or whatever the female equivalent is) figure of wisdom that would be deferred to or at least consulted on important matters.
* Two captains (Ploiarchos). Corinthian Hoplites forming part of the Phalanx. These guys are brothers and are the nephews of the Strategoi (if we have one) or philosopher.

Warband
* Lochos. X amount of hoplites to form a small phalanx. The tanks - spears and shields a must.
* Ekdromoi. "Berserker" types. Big lads or lassies with two-handed weapons that like to get stuck in. Their job is to pop out from behind the line and cover our flanks and do a general bit of mopping up. Would have to be reasonably suicidal.
* Gymnitai. Light infantry - archers, peltasts, slingers to attack from behind the phalanx. Would recommend small shields, leather cuirasses and a dagger or one handed weapon in case it all goes wrong!

Support
* At least one Physician
* Attendants

I'm thinking kind of along the lines of Jason an the Argonauts, although I'm not looking to be a cheap imitation of that. It will basically be a surrogate family with a spirit of adventure. At the core of the group will be two Greek brothers (champion class hoplites, one of them possibly a war-leader) who have left the Military to seek legendary exploits and fortune. We're considering not having a war-leader as we are probably not allied to one Greek state and we like the idea of having to affiliate ourselves with other groups to get what we want.

We're planning on being fairly neutral in terms of our general attitudes towards everyone except the Romans and Carthaginians, but we'll fight/work against anyone so long as it suits our pockets and ideologies. There should still be plenty of room for conflict and personal agendas.

We currently have the two brothers who will form part of the phalanx and one archer. All other positions are open, as are we to further suggestions if this sounds like the sort of group you'd like to get involved with. PM me!

Just want to be absolutely clear on one thing...

Your Egyptian Physician - will he be entering 'Egypt' as his culture or 'Greece'?
If you've been following the 'Mixed cultural groups' thread, you'll see we've been trying to point out there's a very big difference between the two. We probably should have put a warning more strongly worded than the 'don't play Independants unless you're bloody sure what you're doing' of Maelstrom. Doesn't matter so much in M, there's not a lot of PD 'plot' thrown around and mechanistically speaking you're not that disadvantaged at all.

Not so with Odyssey. The PD plot is much higher, and now the rules are out I'd hope it was abundantly clear that having mixed cultures in your group is a horrible idea if you intend to enter the arena/quests/god game and your out of cultural phils wont be able to heal or buff you. That's before we get into the stuff that's not in the rulebook - shouldn't be a big surprise to people if some of NPC motivations at the game are to reinforce cultural hegemony over multiculturalism.

Putting 'Greece' across the board doesn't lock you out of anything, and it's perfectly fine to have an Egyptian born in Egypt, who looks like an Egyptian, talks like an Egyptian and yet owes his loyalty to Greece. Well, the other Greeks might give him funny looks and he's top of the 'Greek most likely to voted on a suicide mission' - but mechanics wise there's nothing agin it.

Now's the time to sort it out, rather than at the event where the only option is a retire/new char gen.
