After a quick once over in the Rulebook;

------------------
Players may elect to specialise in particular weapon types during
character generation and - through this specialisation, gain the ability to
do more damage or use other damage calls. Single points of damage
require no damage call in combat.
All phys reps must pass a weapon’s
check to be used at Eos events.
------------------

Hope this helps.

i did ask this at an event.. allan said "you dont need to call single but if there is alot of damage calls going around it will be nice to shout it so the NPC can keep a better score of his body hits"

I generally shout it out as well, purely as a curtosy call in large combat. However its nice to have the rule as it is for any night time shinanigans.

Pete didn't seem to think so when we encountered you during our night time shenanigans.

Just to go give this an official answer, no you don't have to call them. As has been said though, it can often help with hit counting, and sometimes to register the hit at all. (When under alot of padded armour sometimes you don't know you've been hit, for example, and calling damage may help)

Why ? it's what most people are calling. I know the average damage call at SoS is five-million at the very least but that's just silly.
