Xollob (6/25/2009) you do have freedom of speech in the UKLegally I think you'll find you have no such thing actually. Where do you think this 'freedom' is enshrined.

| See, personal interest in this. But at what age do you think negative behaviours are embedded. I have a cousin who was adopted from his single, teen, drug addicted, abusive, neglectful mum at the age of 6 months. He was given to my aunt and uncle to look after. My aunt has successfully raised other children who are now well adjusted adults functioning in society, moral backgrounds and upbringings etc etc. He is currently in prison for all the reasons Andy describes, he is a repeat offender because the routines of prison appeal to him more than having to 'work' he is in and out of clinics when he is not in prison due to heroin addictions and has assaulted his (now ex) wife and their daughter in drunken rages. Nature vs nurture is a common arguement, and looking at my cousins as they are now 2 boys, same upbringing same opportunities, totally different in where their lives ended up. What causes this, is general idiocy genetic, can it even be 'corrected'? My experiences say no, but clearly there is more than one cause of antisocial behaviour, isn't the key in identifying the people who *can* be rehabilitated rather than those who are a lost cause?

Article 10, European Convention on Human Rights, 'Freedom of Expression', incorporated into UK law by the Human Rights Act 1998.

As Chessypig said, we have the right to free expression, I'd have thought that extended to protection from persecution due to your beliefs

Freedom from persecution due to your beliefs is Article 9 and is much more strongly worded than Article 10.

| Freedom of speach is not necessarily the same as freedom of expression. I love the ECHR, Article 10 starts out all nice and fluffy: 1. Everyone has the right to freedom of expression. this right shall include freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers. This article shall not prevent States from requiring the licensing of broadcasting, television or cinema enterprises. OOOOoooo that sounds like some kind of freedom of speach right there....but hang on 2. The exercise of these freedoms, since it carries with it duties and responsibilities, may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society, in the interests of national security, territorial integrity or public safety, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, for the protection of the reputation or the rights of others, for preventing the disclosure of information received in confidence, or for maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary. Backtrack, backtrack, backtrack! I love the massive clash in this article between the phrase: "to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority and regardless of frontiers" and: "may be subject to such formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law..in the intersts of national security". So wait a minute giving a right "without interference from public bodiies" whilst at the same time insisting that it's necessary to have interference from public bodies....yeah....that makes a whole loada sense.
