I think that is true, just... but IME most of the combat injuries aren't the direct result of latex weapon combat. Falling, trampling, and collision injuries seem more common, and generally more severe.

The vast majority of LRP injuries are caused by the scenery (trees, doors, walls etc).

I agree. Then again; being a LRP egomaniac I count most things as scenery. (monsters, crew, refs, other players etc)

I agree that its scenery that causes injuries. My ankle was injured in combat, but the cause was a rabbit hole interface error.

Personally the worst I have suffered was sprained akle so bad I couldntt walk on it for a week.

However a friend of mine had the following. Was shot at by an archer, the arrow being unknowlingly damaged the head actually fell off in flight.  Unfortunately the now sharp broken wooden end decided it quite liked the look of my mates neck as it went in quite well.

Cue blood and worry and rapid trip to hospital.  On returning to the site later in the day he informed us the doctors said the arrow missed his jugular by about 3mm.  I've seen blown out knees but near death experience always wins out for me.

I punched a guy who was wearing chain-mail and broke my fingers.

Oh well, you can't be smart all the time.

I have broken both my arm and my nose in LRP gun fights, but the worst injury has to have been fromfalling into a barbeque barrel, not only was it the most embaressing as I got stuck and had to be lifted out but it removed all the skin from my wrist down to my ankle on my right hand side, as well as being extremely painfull once the bruising came out I looked as though I'd been in a car crash.

Now I remember!

I was organising the props for a LRP ritual for a linear for my local club. The Linear calls for them to find a dead ritualist (me) in the middle of a ritual circle miles from anywhere. So I’m sticking those Bamboo oils lanterns in the ground (to make it all atmospheric) when I noticed that the wick on one of them had fallen into the reservoir. So naturally, I gingerly stick my finger in to retrieve it – where it promptly gets stuck. Now the inside of these metal reservoirs has a lot of metal flack on it and the more I try and ease my finger out, the more the flack slices into the base of my finger.

So I’m stuck – half a mile from anybody – with the party slowly getting closer to the encounter bleeding into an oil reservoir. A good ten minutes of slowly easing my finger out and I have a slice out of my finger all the way around and it’s bleeding liberally.

Being a sensible chap naturally I call a man down and go off to get treated. Or I should have done. What I actually do is take my hanky – bind my finger as tightly as I can, light the remaining braziers and lie down in the centre of the ritual circle. When the party get to the encounter I eventually get inspected and the linear goes a little squiffy as instead of determining that the ritual that summoned the big bad thing in the forests killed me – the Party surmise that I was killed from a poisoned wound to the hand.

I can’t blame them – it was a pretty good phyrep.

My worst came when I was at an indoor event, can't remember where. Knocked ic unconscious in a tunnel, I dropped to the ground. Didn't realise there was a doorway behind me, right up to the point when a fighter came running out of it and stood on my elbow. He wasn't a light chap, and a week later I still had the clear purple imprint of his boot on the crook of my arm. Not that I could bend it much anyway.

The worst-but-amusing I've seen was my husband being beaten into unconsciousness by our plot team. He'd been concussed by the MA while monstering and so went to sit down, whereupon Dan, the guy who wrote the plot Alan had monstered, slapped him heartily on the back and congratulated him on his work. Alan explained he was concussed, that didn't help, and if he threw up he'd be aiming for Dan. Over the course of an hour Dave, Dessie and Daniel (beginning with D was clearly a requirement for Lions plot at the time) did similar, my favourite being one guy slapping him round the head for sitting around saying he was concussed. Eventually Alan staggered away and hid before the plot team killed him ooc.
