I know quite a few people at Maelstrom are happy to play servants but are cup boys going to be so popular???
*edit* that's weird, my post for some reason has been rendered in twain. Sorry about the three separate posts, some sort of strange error?

Since this morning I've signed up some recruits ! Definately some steam building up for good old Corinthia ... must remember to make some purple sashes.
The only shame about Odyssey is that we won't be able to deploy Were-Gerbils or War-Hamsters. Or talking mushrooms that wear sombreros.

Sorry - I thought you said 'shame'?
Obviously we at PD love a wide range of different races, cultures and philosophies, but we don't think they have a place in this game. It's key for us that people can look at our games (these two at the moment, no doubt more in the future) and say 'I like xxx - so I will play Game A'. We hope many people will like our 'corporate' approach and play Maelstrom and Odyssey - but we expect some will play one and not the other.
For example a core differentiator is the approach to downtime. Maelstrom players enjoy a rich downtime where, for all the structure and automation, there's a high degree and choice of options. Odyssey is an uptime game - there are no downtime armies or building. 99.999% of the game happens at the event which means it might be slightly easier for people to drop in and out; or to 'try it' and see the whole game without committing beyond the weekend (and preparing the kit of course!).
Horses for courses!

Dude ... I was being facetious, please do not needlessly rip me a new one. Damn internet.
I'm glad to hear there will be less focus between events, it'll make for a tighter group in my case. I tired of Maelstrom long ago, only going since people ask me to so but Odyssey already looks/sounds promising from the things I have read and the people I have discussed it with.
Don't worry, my group will know their stuff when it comes to the world setting and political concepts.

No - I need to apologise - I should have put in a smiley - I'm just trying to give them up!
Glad you're interested - but as a small caveat - we're not writing a game that requires a Classics degree to play. It's more about being thematic together and the buzz phrase amongst the designers is 'It's a Mythic Setting!'.

| I will be playing Persia. Oh definitely. I will probably be making a big pile of Group Kit, and recruiting people on the basis of that kit.

Noblet (6/3/2009) Not much interest in Egypt at the moment - at least Amun Sa gear will come in handy. I wonder if the Gods will be phys-repped? I'm pretty sure the egyptian gods used to mill about on earth and the Greek Gods were always down here stealing our women (and men!)Well, i know that i've talked to Mr White about playing a Nubian tribesman as a "subject tribe" of the egyptians, giving much more variety to the kit that can be used (horray for larp save favalins and short spears )

| I still have my kit from the original version of the game, so Greece for me is most appealing. However I'll wait to see the full version of the setting & rules before deciding what to play. I suspect that I'll stay Greek .. I need an excuse to buy that stab safe spear that I've been mewling over for years. In saying that, both Carthage and Persia look very tempting. I'm just disappointed that you left out the Celts

Carthage looks good for a disreputable urchin type, but I suspect I'll end up going with whatever culture the CUTT fighty types pick for their 'we want to stab people with spears and/or run around with enormous door shields, huzzah!' warband.
