After talking to some people at the last EOS, I'm looking at bringing a dwarven academic to the next insurrection event, but looking at the system one thing confuses me.

What do dwarves do in uptime?

It seems obvious that the Landrils do mass combat, the wayfarers buy and sell things, the velvet glove do assasination and special forces things and the dawning light try not to get stepped on and put back in their place.

But what do the free thought radicals do in uptime? Is there a lot of plot around academic debate? Are there going to be people for my radical anthropologist to discuss his theories of racial superiority with?

If he dosen't take medical skills, I can't really understand what a person with only wisdom skills does in uptime.

I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me some idea of the kind of plot aimed at the radicals.

Do not ask "What plot can your ref provide for you?", ask instead, "What plot can you provide for your ref?"

Radical plot at previous events has included:

Geocaching!  (i.e. locating and digging up hidden treasure)
Collecting signatures on a petition
Collecting (read: abducting) research subjects
Assisting senior academics with some field research

In terms of skill use, obviously a lot of their skills are heavily downtime-focused, but the products of those skills can provide a lot of things to do in uptime.  And we can definitely provide racial-superiority discussion plot.  Seriously.

Hang on - didn't we steal some of those plots as Wayfarers?

Quite, quite literally.  Whilst studiously ignoring economic plot.  Players are weird.  *grin*

We did keep hoping more Wayfarer's would arrive and take an interest in the economic plot. But at least we all 'enjoyed the fair fruit of of labours' at the end.

A fair day's face-stabbing for a fair day's back-stabbing does seem entirely appropriate remuneration, yeah. *grin*

As a now sadly dead member of the Radicals I have to say it was a lot of fun!

Our hobbies include unleashing evil griblies on the world by taking shiny things for "research", breaking teleport pads in the middle of the night so that the players can't escape (it all made sense at the time) and running around the woods jumping up and down on gully dwarves!

Would definately reccomend it, great roleplay opportunities plus you get to avoid the whole beard issue and just have fun losing your horns all day!

Never ascribe to malice what can be explained by incompetence - I never noticed any economic plot.

But racial-superiority discussion plot - that we noticed. That was great.

Players are weird. *grin*

I'd not argue with you there.

Odyssey team. Someone kind once said I was designing the game experience. Flattery will get him far.

As with all PD matters, such positions are best sought direct from PD through the usual official channels. Accept no substitutes!

Actually, now I think about it, the Wayfarers did encounter econimic plot, but we focussed more on the shiny human, the shiny diamond and your ongoing experimentation into pharmaceuticals...

But racial-superiority discussion plot - that we noticed. That was great.

And I guess we proved that Faith tainted humans aren't just mad - they're rabid!
