Can this be combined with increased damage calls such as double?
Just had a skim through the rules and couldn't find anything on how you can stack damage calls.
Mainly asking becuase if the answer is no then intermediate through seems a bit pointless (unless you hit an elf )

| Page 17, System 1.1 (the end of the School of War section): Please note: you may use only one call from a skill with a single blow, although these can be combined with things that affect your weapon (e.g. Septic, Mystic, etc.) or alternated during a single combat (e.g. a Double, then a Knockback, and then a Double, and so on). So Intermediate Through can't be combined with the Double that comes from the War skill, but could be combined with Blade Venom for Septic Through, which is utterly horrible. Although possibly Through should become a skill in the School of Life rather than the School of War. Don't forget that most characters will have at most three hits on their vitals before armour -- you could kill them with three Throughs, therefore, and have their armour available for looting.

I would suggest that from a balance point of view, War is already a fair bit more XP intensive than Life and gives far slower returns (as well as being able to be countered a lot more easily).
Life has Backstab, for what is pretty much an insta-kill. I would have thought that ought to be enough as far as armour penetrating lethality goes.

| Surgery would make no sense at all in the School of Life. The word "Life" in that area is intended along the lines of "University of Life, School of Hard Knocks" kinda thing, rather than health. Surgery will definitely stay with Wisdom. I think Tim's right about Through, unless we were to amalgamate Through and Backstab into a Basic skill that allowed a call (once per day) of Through, then Double Through, and then Critical Through. More likely, however, we'll just leave it where it is.

I'm all for keeping Through out of life. From an IC point of view, surviving on wits and speed would have tought you how to get behind someone and stick a dagger between their shoulders but knowing where to strike at weak points in armour is something you'd learn on the battlefield agains armoured opponents.

raggedhalo (4/21/2009) I think Tim's right about Through, unless we were to amalgamate Through and Backstab into a Basic skill that allowed a call (once per day) of Through, then Double Through, and then Critical Through. More likely, however, we'll just leave it where it is.
I'd keep backstab as it is - it's a good skill in that whilst it is fairly dock hard, it does require some hard skill in being sneaky enough to get in the right position, hence it's well placed in school of life.
I'd leave Through in War, but do like the idea of having an escalation of calls - through (basic) double through (intermediate) and critical through (advanced)
----------------------------------------------------------------
The bad end unhappily, the good unluckily: that is what tragedy means.
