I've always found the idea of awards ceremonies unappealing. The desperately insecure in search of affirmation and applause from the desperately uninformed. I look forward in ten years time to Strictly Come Roleplaying in which Bruce Forsythe compere's a show with ten faded celebrities learning to roleplay. Perhaps Amber Eagar can be one of the judges... "Your roleplaying of that spell was simply magical, I gave it a 10".

Frankly my dear, I'd rather eat my cat's stools.

History is an important source for LRP. Along with other works of fiction.

To a point I can agree with you. However, I am interested in any tool that encourages people to attend good games and promotes the hobby. If an Awards ceremony is constructed as a tool to try to achieve that, then it has a good ambition (IMHO).

However, Amber's been out of touch on this one for some considerable time, so I wouldn't hold out much hope.

Remove the cheese and acknowledge people who never get the credit they deserve and you have a half decent show. Personally, I would only go to a show that had actual entertainment on the bill. It would be like pulling teeth otherwise and the highlight would be me getting drunk and trying to ignore it.

1 - Sounds like every award show, i think Kerrang make a point of the drunk part with all the watchers, awarders, the awardes and the viewers at home!

2 - Sounds like a good night out to me, where do i sign up?

An awards show is a great idea....if half way through you go all H.P. Lovecraft on the attendees and throw a deep one in for good measure.  Then the rest of the awards ceremony could be a surprise horror game.

Now that would be fun!

Having just watched those awfull trailers, I'm even more convinced that George W is waging the "war on terror" on the wrong continent.

Clearly what *should* happen is there should be a powercut during the 3rd award speech and that is when the murder will take place...
