I can only assume the IC and OOC objections to lager come from people whose lager experience has never strayed beyond slightly off student union Carling. Given that records of the lager method of brewing (cold storage, bottom-fermenting yeasts) go back to at least the 13th Century, I'm not sure in which systems lager would be inappropriate.

Whilst I agree with a lot of you, I think we're getting off topic into drinks snobbery.

Ias

Actually I think thats on topic considering it started from Marcus wanting to ban lager simply because its a bit crap - nothing to do with authenticity...

Coops (7/30/2006)

But socks. We all have them. And we could use them to cover the dread words of heineken.

Are you serious? Drinking out of a sock!
Yes it would cover a can but I would really be challenged by someone drinking from a sock.

Sarah here... Thats only cheap crap red wine. Proper red wine does not.

Actually, I've tried some expensive red wine. As in £50 per bottle stuff (or something equally ridiculous, I didn't pay... I'm not that rich/dumb) and it tasted... even worse than the cheap plonk.

And the more expensive the champagne, the more it tastes of aftershave.

Give me a nice pint of mild instead...

To those who don't know, the cold storage part is what is known as the lagering process. That said, the vast majority of what is sold as lager in this country isn't, technically, lager. It is mostly top fermented (because the equipment is cheaper and easier to run) and the only cold storage it sees is when it arrives at a pub and is put in the cellar or fridge (because storing it for any length of time would cost money).
To find a real lager in this country, you'll probably need to look in the real ale section of your local supermarket or go to a real ale pub.

I may be at the same event as you, but that does not mean I am playing the same game.

Could it be that Ale makes one old and fat, whilst Alcopops make on young and thin?
