My motto has always been that I can please all of the people most of the time. Come to Heroquest and you will enjoy yourself.

I guarantee it or your money back.

How is that for people?

If you get your kicks out of killing other peoples characters and ruining their fun then dont come to Heroquest.

Sorry to drag up an old post, but I deeply resent the implication that PVP-friendly types do it to ruin other people's fun. And, indeed, that getting dead ruins your fun. I also guess I'm not the only person on this board who feels this way.

However, this is a thread for your system, so I am not going to come in here and tell you that You're Doing It Wrong, on the other hand, I shall be keeping my nose away from your game if that is that attitude you have.

I was going to run for parliament, because I want to make the world a better place, but I ran into some old friends and went out for a beer instead.

Player vs player is absolutely fine, but only if that is what is advertised and everybody knows the rule and therefore would not be surprised when it happens.

I worked for treasure trap for a year and Labyrinthe for a year, during that time I ran approximately 600 adventures, both systems allowed pvp but did not adequately broadcast this fact to every player and so some people took advantage of this deliberately killing unsuspecting players and robbing them of their items and gold etc.

This sort of thing shouldn't happen and is 1 player getting enjoyment out of another players suffering.

I had well over 100 complaints in those 2 years and in the end I vowed it would never happen in my games.

I set up Heroquest as a game where a team of players work together against monsters. It works very well (i have players who have been playing the same characters for 5 10 15 and even 20+ years now!) and it creates an excellent club atmosphere where everyone is friendly and trusting. This is very important to me and my players, 90% of people who come to Heroquest to try it stay as players. This is one of the reasons why I have never needed to advertise even though we have been running games since 1987.

Now saying all that PVP can be great fun when done properly (for sure millions of online gamers cant be wrong) and the fear and competitiveness is so much higher when you all know that there are so many people out there who are potentially out to kill you. This is exactly why I have set up Herofest. To give players a chance to compete and fight and kill each other whilst trying to complete the most missions and win the weekend.

If you want to play a game where you can trust those standing beside you come to Heroquest.

If you want to know that over 100 players on a weekend are your potential enemies then come to Herofest.

The most important thing about Live Role Playing is to have fun, everything else should be secondary. However your fun should not be at the expense of others.

If you come to any event I run you are there to have fun and are paying me to do so, If there is something one of my players doesnt enjoy then they tell me and I do everything in my power to make it so they are having fun once more.

enough from me

Upfront advertising is the key. I'm afraid I've just reasked some of these questions on a different thread - hopefully they aren't entirely redundant.

Actually, I am glad that you will be staying away from heroquest. I saw you at Mealstrom, and the way you acted, even to you own unit was unbelievable !!, you head butted your own troops, called them useless and then beat up a couple behind the camp !!!!!.........I know at least one said, "all i wanted was a few pointers..not someone to hit me for more for kicks". I saw you approach a prospective new member, and basically read him the riot act !!!, thats a nice warm welcoming person...not !!!!

I am rather new to the world of LARP, but i shall be giving HQ a go in October. The whole reason i will be giving it a go is the PvP and stealing crap has been done away with. I mean i dont want to waste my time detailing and sorting a characters background and kit, only for it to die on the first day. Plus having met the HQ guys and had a drinkies with them, I know they are really cool guys that want to help and promote LRP, and make it a cool experience for people. I cant wait till october.....its the reason why i am giving mealstrom a miss in september !!!

Lestat, you need to understand the distinction between player and character. Just because Ias's character is like that, doesn't mean he is like that.

Playing out a punishment scene with a harsh drillmaster sounds like a enjoyable scene - for the players - with a lot of potential tension & emotive power. It also seems quite plausible for a military-structured group (and even topical, given the RL recent 'beasting to death' incident in the news).
