http://www.heroquest.org/

I saw the add in larpguide and I went to have a look.  It runs very, very frequently at 2 events/month(!) and they seem to have some good kit.  But the prices!  Gak!  And the rules system... I'd suggest chessypig look at it if I didn't think they needed to do some work, it's really a powergamers delight.

Has anyone reading this played it?  Is it good?  Would anyone who likes it enough be prepared to write an event review?

Pfft, their Humacti don't have to beserk on seeing Undead / are actually encouraged not to endanger their party fanatically killing undead! What kind of lame pansy-*** Humacti fails to endanger their party when they think they have a shot at killing the local vampire thereby?

It has a very good rep for doing high-power, traditional, high fantasy events. I've never been myself though.

Heroquest is one of the oldest LRP clubs in the UK- and used to hold the record for the longest ever overland linear. Mark Roberts (Shitfer) who runs it, is a really nice bloke who has managed to keep a traditional LRP club going while most similar systems have folded, he's very sharp, has a good eye for a profit, but always delivers what he promises and a lot of the "old guard" LRPers either play HQ, or have played or worked for Mark at some point.
It's probably one of the few systems which can claim professional status.
Yes it's expensive, but so is staying in a hotel instead of crashing on a mates floor.

Um. I'm reasonably sure that I wrote 'pansy-***' without asterisks. Yes, in fact, on previewing it, *** comes out as asterisks. (To be sure - a-s-s is what I've been typing.)

CP- What's a humacti?

AS- I think your boards software doesn't like ass but might like arse.

AR- Do you think if I asked him nicely he'd ask one of his players to write an event review?

Traditionally, Humacti are followers of the deity / moral code of Kicking Undead Arse. I think this comes from some tabletop setting beginning with G, but they have infected most games that are direct descendants of Treasure Trap.

The Humakti (original spelling) were followers of the god Humakt (god of swords, as I recall) in the original Runequest tabletop game back in the early 80's.

The world of Reunquest was called Glorantha (hence the setting starting with G I guess )

To check further I'd have to go root about in cupboards and find the original rulebook, and my memory may be faulty, since it must be 20 years since I last actually played it
