Not being funny, but seriously making cans an issue in LRP games?

If its that important, why not provide cheap IC containers for people to drink out off! I'm more worried about kit quality and having monsters look like what there supposed to be (as opposed to having a 6ft tall hairy bloke phys-repping a sewer rat type of thing)

Agreed- I think the issue comes when the kit quality is already very good.  Once you get to that stage, other things like cans start to stand out a bit more.

Yeah, to be fair I had something like the Maelstrom IC bar or a tavern event run by a decent club in mind when I was thinking of environments where cans make a difference rather than the huge pit of OOCness that is something like the Gathering beer tent.

You're entitled to your opinion as long as you realise it's wrong.

Me too, The Gathering tavern is not exactly IC AFAIK.

At the vast majority of events I've been to there are passable tankards etc. for sale for about the same price as a pint of beer....

Still, requiring all characters to carry a drinking vessel with them at all times, on the off-chance that they might want to drop into the tavern for a quick drink, is not necessarily sensible for all genres or character types.

LRP is just a game.

You can take a game seriously and want to achieve something from it - win conditions that you establish for yourself by any means you like, but at the end of the day we all turn up to enjoy ourselves; the game is a function of allowing us to do so.

I couldn't care less what you drink your drinks from, it doesn't affect my game.

I always remind myself when I see poor kit, that todays LCD is tomorrow's fashion statement, after all, I had poor kit when I started, and didn't get good kit for at least a year or more. Some people still have issues with my kit - but I like it

More immersive games tend to work better with fewer people, that way you get more detailed roleplay, character interaction and character development. Perhaps Dragonbane will buck this trend, but in the discussions about it I noted may people unhappy with the restrictions placed on players for the sake of immersion.

The argument of historical accuracy falls down the minute anyone say the word Fantasy. I guess the only argument you can hold against it is one of flavour.

There are only two things that will ultimately affect the standards of costume et al at events. One is the organisers determinations of what they will allow, the other is the peer pressure that affects the players. Some will be affected more than others, as they may have friends who give them good kit advice, or complain around the campfire when modern cooking tools are used etc... Those peers can't police the whole of the event, and nor should they as they rightly have no more say that any other player.

I won't choose who I roleplay with dependent on how good their kit is. I'll choose based on the win conditions of my game and that is to enjoy myself.

I've said it before, and no doubt I'll have cause to say it again, but not all LRP is fantasy. In fact, quite a lot of LRP is NOT fantasy genre based.

With respect, your point?

I gave an example of how the historical argument goes out of the window based on the examples at hand. If you like you can use "Future", "Science Fiction" "Alternate Reality" - it all boils down to the same line of reasoning...

Please do find a bin for the nits once you've picked em...
