Yes, but you are probably a young flibberty gibbet who doesn't know any better. It were all LRP in my day I tell you, far as the eye can see.

That were my thinkin' too. 23 years I've been doing LRP, man and boy, and it's only in the last 5 years or so that I've heard people calling it LARPing. Bloody johnny-come-latelies.

PD: Ghostdance ("The most irritating curse I've ever encountered" -- NPC played by H.)
Riftworld: Rossar Kuug ("Clearly mad, because he thinks he's a Com-Trow Skirmisher" - Aela)
Hyborian Tales: Crew, cook, dogsbody, general labourer, toilet cleaner ("Dangerously overoptimistic ref" -- Tom Nowell)
Otherwise usually crew ("Quite spry & fit, & willing to wear a big costume & run around a lot" -- various event organisers)

"My other oversized foam weapon is THE LORD" -- Questionable Content

I only clock up 13years worth, but concur that "LARP" is a recent abomination*, and i've never heard "live ADVENTURE roleplaying" until now.

*For MET players - an Abomination is "A cause of abhorrence or disgust" not a vampire/werewolf/powergaming cross.

If you can't beat your computer at chess, try kickboxing.

LARP because Live Adventure Role Playing means something.

But Live Roleplay and Live ADVENTURE roleplay (to my mind at least) mean the same thing. "Live adventure" or "Live Action" is a tautology, surely?

Nope.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Live_action is where Live Action come from. Live Adventure would be versus tabletop adventure and also denotes it's unscripted nature.  Next!

But yes, Vampire is dull as a very dull thing.

Good, I'm glad that you recognise your advancing senescence.    Times change and I want to use new ways to describe the hobby I love.  Who knows?  One hears that old timers like yourself now have jobs in managerial positions and thus might know WTF I'm talking about.

Its surely never been Live 'adventure' roleplay????

Thats just sad.

Not as sad as MET though.

It hasn't been yet.  But times change.  Change happens deal with it.

Well you live and learn.  Or not.

I like 'larp' because that way it looks like a proper pronounceable verb and not just a cold, heartless acronym.

Of course, that's because some people have been LARPing longer than you've been alive...

So LARP

Not LARP.  Larp.  See, now it looks like a proper word, like 'laser'.  LASER just sounds like a cheesy 70s superhero team.

Yup.  If there's one thing that larp has taught me, it's the way that massacring a bunch of strangers in a remote wooded glade solves all your problems for you.
