Man in Blue (9/8/2006) Can I recommend Jaqueline Carey without being branded a pervert?
Her Kushiel trilogy is well written, with an evocative fantasy world and excellent intrigue-based storylines... but it is not for the faint-hearted or the prudish: since the main character is a masochistic courtesan.
I read the first one, thinking "I'm not going to like this, it's *really* not my cup of tea"
...and then read all three of them! And no, it's still not my cup of tea, but the writing is good, and the storylines are well thought out, and there are far less enjoyable books to read on the train.
PD - Her grace Ansellina Sanseverain, Duchesse Van Blackthorne: massive frocks and massive accent. Massively dead. Mill-en

Well I hope Graphics count because I've just started on 'The Authority'. I know I'm a bit behind on this, but better late than ever.

I believe this thread will run and run - assuming people are still reading!
I'm currently reading "As used on the famous nelson mandella" by mark thomas, a nice undercover expose of the arms trade.
A great book that makes you go "my god, that's outrageous! everyone must know about this". But sadly (a bit like Bush stealing the election as well documented) despite all the facts being available, no-one gives a shit.

| Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen - again.... About the eighth time, tbh Persuasion - JA - again.... about the twelfth time. Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte - again again, but this one I've only read four times, I think... And a couple of Steven King novels "Needful Things" and "Skeleton Crew", "Who moved my Cheese?", and "The Prisoner of Zenda". And every time I mention that last book I feel the urge to slap my thigh and yell Ha Hah! in true panto boy style...

Working my way through Jarhead after seeing the movie a while ago. It's very enjoyable, and very edgy. Worth the read.

(italics mine) Very good way of putting it.Bluefaerie (9/14/2006) And a couple of Steven King novels "Needful Things" and "Skeleton Crew", "Who moved my Cheese?", and "The Prisoner of Zenda". And every time I mention that last book I feel the urge to slap my thigh and yell Ha Hah! in true panto boy style... If that's your thing, I might try to recommend "Captain Alatriste" by Arturo Perez-Reverte? Swash, buckle, intrigue, romance and daring, not to mention the insulting poetry that seems a sign of the times.
