Thanks again guys. Now scheming how to get time off in september regardless of where I'm working.

Spellcasters underrepresented you say?...hmmm... i was looking at the magical side of things (Having played a slew of combat things more recently)... perhaps I can explore a midground somewhere (and avoid anything with too much makeup for a change)....

*goes off to read through rules and char gen again*

No, I said that some types of magic are underrepresented and that spellcasters will stand out. That's not the same thing...

There are 3 unique things about EOS I can think of, from my experience. Bear in mind any or all of these might be found elsewhere, I've just never had them at a LRP event before.

A) Crafters are *super-important*. Since no-one starts with equipment, and powerful abilities rely on it, crafters have the opportunity to be incredibly influential, to a degree I've never seen before.

B) There's a sensation of interdependence between the different groups and races. Being used to games in which conflict is the major driving force, this is quite new; there's a tenuous, fragile peace and the beginnings of a global (in terms of players) alliance which may or may not survive. And whether it does is down to us, not the plot team. PLP without permaconflict? Not seen that before.

C) The "all of the above" checkbox rating. Player-led and driven mechanics? Yep. Monster-based encounters? Yep. Overarching plotline? Yep. Complex NPCs with agendas outside the player scope? Yep. DT with huge opportunities to interact with and change the world? Yep. Simple rules that don't need ref intervention? Yep. A reactive, receptive Ref team for all those ideas that don't come under the rules? Yep. It's almost like Allen and Stu made a list of everything they like in every system they've ever played in and tried to tick as many boxes as possible.

Also - pretty much all of the races and cultures are awesome in play, because all the humanoid cultures have something to hang your characterisation off and the races are just awesome in general. The cultural booklets you get when you make a character help a lot (something I liked at Strom and like more here). I'm still not sure how much I like the whole "X-people" thing (ape-people, dog-people, cat-people) but having them as mutants works better for me than them just "existing" PD-esquely. Elves are also fantastic, particularly Aivelle, and the Orcs... what can I say?

(Apart from "don't play a fricking Orc, we have enough of the toothy buggers already", but that's just my IC prejudices showing through.)

Actually our mortality rate is rather high because we're always at the frontline. We can always do with more Orcs simply because of that fact.

Although do play whatever you want. If it happens to be a green/blackskin then it's all good.

Please do not tell people to not play a certain race or culture, especially saying we have enough of that type. There are not enough Orcs at all, there are how ever enough.......nope not gonna break my own rule. There is a groups link here somewhere for you to get contact details for most if not all the groups, if you wish to join one or you could even start the game without one and join In game. :-)

Put the overdefensiveness down and back away slowly...
