I was thinking about the LRP art thing, and then about the difference between the event itself being Art and a player's portrayal of a character being art.

I reckon that the players (and crew) have a greater effect on whether a game is good than the rules or the gameworld. I believe this because its possible to have a good game when the rules aint so hot or the gameworld doesnt grab you but you've got good roleplayers, but if a game has got bad roleplayers your weekend is usually totally screwed.

So I was going to ask you lot what techniques you had for making better characters for yourself and being a better roleplayers, then I thought about how big a subject that might be. So...

skip to the end

I think we should have a separate board for roleplaying seeing as we have one mostly for game-design. Then we can discuss some techniques and ideas that will be useful to all of us rather than just those of us who run write and games.

Oui/Non?

Yep sounds like a good idea to me.......though being a careful soul, it might be prudent to lay down some ground rules about respecting others views on how to RP. Folks do it in many differant ways and the first fight fest in Rules 7 tradition might be about which way is right, instead of enter with an open mind.

I for one have forgotten how to RP, I'm not sure if I even did RP in the past, I have a suspicion I was just dressing up and acting a bit. And I wont talk about the RP stage fright. I just clam up and go mute!

So ya I need help and a support group maybe?

Havign a discussion on this is a very good thing, might I suggest a poll as well?

I'm happy to add a forum at the conclusion of the said discussion should that conclusion be reached.

However, as a general point, I don't want to get into using the forums to lobby for change, the reason for this is that further down the road lies posts like "I think this thread should be moderated" - which we (the mods and admins) really don't appreciate as it increases the amount of work required to supervise the site exponentially. We'd much rather people PM us or use the report function to highlight problems.

I realise this thread isn't actually a case of this kind of practice, but it would be ver helpful if someone PM'd a summary of what they would like either at the start or end of the discussion on this.
