Aha! Well I might just hang fire and check those out then, as I haven't gotten my finger out and ordered anything as yet. Thanks for that

If you were going to renewal then I could help. I have a large box of steel helms that I'm clearing out cheaply. I have about thirty or forty steel helms of various shapes, sizes and designs to clear from about £15 upwards. I may bring them along to Maelstrom in September if this is of interest.

Hi there and thanks for the replies everyone.

Forge, thanks for the offer, but I would prefer to avoid the nasal guard if possible.

Sean it's unlikely I will be attending renewal, as I'll probably be broke after the gathering! Any chance you could send me a picture of a couple of your plainest helms?

Sean, I'm definitely interested in taking a look at that box of cheap helms at Maelstrom Event 4, if you bring them along.

No Problems,, I an had some of them with him last Maelstrom but I'll bring the rest along in September. They're mostly Indian made Larp type helms; Norman nasals, chapeau de feu etc, some of these are too small fro adult heads and would suit junior players and some are getting a bit dirty and rusty. there are a few more serious helms in there as well, a few overly heavy 2mm and 3mm Russian made items and a couple of German made salets.
No time to photograph them unfortunately, I'll just take them to events, put them out in bins and see what reasonable offers I get. I'd take an offer on the lot if anyone's equipping an army!
