I'm looking for a plain pot-type helm, and struggling to find one. The plainer the better, but I would consider one with a nasal guard. It doesn't matter if the helm is a bit battered, if anything that would add character. Also cheap would be nice!

Whilst people are checking out their attics and sheds, I would also be interested in some metal chest armour if anyone has an old one/set going cheap!

Thanks for looking!

I've got a viking spectacle helm similar to this one:

That I could let go, too many helmets and only one head!

Say £30 + postage, unless you happen to be anywhere near the south coast next weekend as I'm in the UK on a brief foray.

Thank you for the very kind offer, but I don't think I could cope with the spectacle things, so I will decline. Thanks for the offer tho

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, I'd seen the Norton Armouries pointed spanghelm, which I think is the closest I've seen to what I'm after.

Altho I'd prefer not to spend quite that much if I can avoid it hehe! I was hoping someone might have an old bashed up helm kicking about somewhere. Also I think I will wait to see how my greaves from Norton age before buying anything else from them yet.

You could get GDFB's "Secret" helm:

http://www.gdfb.co.uk/acatalog/GDFB_Helmets.html

It's meant as a base for an archer's secret, so you'd cover it in fabric to create a helm that looks like it's just a hat. You could skip the fabric stage & just use it as is, though.

Thanks for that Ian. Whilst it's a bit more than I was hoping to spend, I think it's a close second to Norton's offering.

Either that or I might get a cheap norman style helmet off ebay and see if I can remove the nose guard.

Thanks for the help everyone

You shouldn't have any difficulty doing that -- I got a cheap Norman helm off eBay, and the noseguard fell off by the end of the 1st LRP event I used it in.

I ended up edging the helm in fur, adding a leather aventail, and thus turning it into a Mongol-style helmet.
