| If Shelford can get Alien costumes, it may be possible to run Aliens & Alienation later this year. I am horrifically overbooked already this year, but the weekends above all look like possibilities. So, which of the dates above are good for folks? What events are going on that I don't want to clash with, apart from Maelstrom and Serenity? (If Shelford can't, making Alien masks is a longer-term plan so it'll be next year).
--------------- Masquerades & Massacres (Jane Austen's Aliens): Organiser Maelstrom: Papa Abgal (The Rum Fairy of Doom, High Exarch of Entertainment) Serenity: Xavier Yu Ji ('Pointy Hat Man') White City: Too Many Characters To Mention! Dark Ages Society: Godfrid Swine-Herd (Scummy Saxon), Hauk Ragnarsson (Rus Viking Flashman)

Eos Event 3 "Into The Wild" would be a good one to avoid. It's 26th - 28th of September - not a direct clash but it'd make a good reason to avoid late September/early October.

| Ah, forgot EOS. And thinking about it, having it the week after Serenity would probably make my head go explodey. Hmm. That narrows it down to the 28th-30th November. Process of elimination, nice & simple! So, guess it's that date then. If it happens this year. What do people think? Too late in the year? Tempting bad weather too much?

If its a mostly indoorsy site, I don't think that date would be too bad. I remember a player event run in the middle of january at a youth hostel and it was all fine. Just remind people to bring a coat for all alien shenanigans that may go on outside.

| Hmm. I'm thinking that that might be too late in the year. If the weather turns cold (like last Serenity, for example) it could be miserable spending the night hunting down xenomorphs. And a late November event would be unpopular for camping. And I love the idea of having all the military camping in the grounds, setting up patrols and that sort of thing. Hmm, definitely leaning towards next year then...

The summer's always busy. If people are going to be sleeping OOC anyway you can put everyone up in the main hut/building/thing and just keep heaters in the tents during time in (when they can be looked after by people continually passing through the area and are hence less of a fire risk). The 'Discourse' Maelstrom player event in February was quite chilly and there were still quite a contingent of nutters out in the woods most of the night. As long as your people in the woods are high on adrenaline and running around, and have somewhere warm to retreat back into and have a warm drink, the cold shouldn't be too much of a problem, and you're much more likely to get a free weekend and a site in the winter.
Maelstrom: Jessily the Wemic, previously Tourmaline of Weaver
CUTT: Kerriville the Ninth, previously Ref 07/08

So what was wrong with October? Are other systems holding events then?

ChessyPig (7/8/2008) As long as your people in the woods are high on adrenaline and running around, and have somewhere warm to retreat back into and have a warm drink, the cold shouldn't be too much of a problem, and you're much more likely to get a free weekend and a site in the winter.Hmm, having the military surviving purely on vast quantities of tea would be very English... Pixie (7/8/2008) So what was wrong with October? Are other systems holding events then?EOS is the weekend between my first two dates. People might not be up for two long larp weekends in a row, what with time off work and so on? Serenity is the weekend before my third date. I'm not sure I could cope with playing Serenity one weekend then organising & running a larp (for the first time!) the next weekend.
