| Went down to have annother mosey at the site in Surrey. I dont know realisticaly if its going to be viable. I will give you the pro's and cons and a link and you can make up your own mind's. If not we are going to have to look for annother site. Personaly I would still like one we can to all intensive purposes invest in, thats dedicated to larp. Good Its 10-14 acre's of very nice woodland Its just inside the M25, fairly near train and bus services It is private land that we would be using as we wished Bad From southampton alone its a two hour drive and I dont drive It looks like it will need a LOT of work, there are some clear paths, but the veggitation is dence, lots of brambles thorns etc and not a lot of space to clear/camp We would need to put a standing pipe on it at least and get some portaloos One side is quite built up. There is limited parking. Here is the link to the advert: http://www.farmproperty.net/50495.htm and here is the satelite view:http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&q=%20Riddlesdown%20High%20School&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl You are looking at Mitchley Wood. I really dont know and I know this is difficult having not seen it but what do you think and if not where else would you suggest?

| Hi, This isn't a location or project I would involve myself in, but this seemed worthy of comment and encouragement! Some years ago we used Downgate Woods in Kent for Lasertag events mostly. It lacked any facilities to speak of. I can confirm that you can cope with this fine, providing: 1. You can set up a portaloo (for women or times when behind a tree just ain't viable). Either having one delivered, or someone brave enough to store and clean one and dig/cover a hole full of shit (not pleasant). These aren't cheap, but they aren't massively overpriced either. 2. You can cope fine with a van and a couple of barrels of water filled from a hosepipe. This will provide water for cleaning / makeup / cooking / etc (drinking for the brave), but people will either need you to run an at-cost bar with bottled drinking water, or know to bring their own. 3. What is a site full of foliage now will be a barren wasteland of open space at other times of the year. Make sure you check the site out at different times. Conservationists may be distressed, but you can get sprays in pumps which can be used to kill off areas of vegetation you want to turn into camp sites or paths. 4. You can build an excellent semi-permanent structure using garden fencing, a couple of poles in the middle, and some hefty sheets of tarpaulin. I know you didn't mention this, but sites without any congregating / rain free structures are just a nightmare. Same for sites without any seating. Bear this in mind. Big project, but the problems you raise are not as big as you fear. Good luck!

| Hmm, it does look a bit boxed in. Lots of possibilities for neighbours to complain about noise and things being built. For £300 a month I wouldn't be sure about it. Question is how much does location depend on number of players? Do you have a big player base down there that wont travel? It's not near me (Nottingham) so I wouldn't be able to pop over all the time, and it seems it's not near you? If you get the right woodland (like Downgate, I have fond memeories of it) then loads of fun can be had building stuff. So is a location 'Darn Sarth' important. Will you be duplicating anything that already exists that you could instead support? Is Downgate still used as an LRP site? Would somewhere in the Midlands (near me) be out of the question?

| It would be £300, then we have it for a month, talked to the guy, we wouldnt have to formaly rent it from him month by month. As I say, there is quite a lot of houseing, so, considering the fact that I dont have a car (yet) but dont mind traveling, do you think its worth having a nosey around at other places? Should we make this a long term project while we use more well known site's for our first events?

| Yeah I'd have a look around for other sites that already exist as LRP sites and use those, eventually maybe finding a perm site to build stuff on. Such as Downgate Wood, see if that is still up for use....the guy who ran the place (whose name escapes me) sadly passed away a few years back. I went there in the days of Kingdom of the Skull (great name!), and I beleive FnH used the site at times, then later Taggers used it. Maybe it's still sitting there...unused. Might be worth looking up? What's the site Skullduggery use or the Medway fort one? Or theres Stock Wood which is getting used alot? There are quite a few possibilities out there at the moment. Don't get me wrong but I'd love to have access to a site where we could build stuff. That has always been one of my dreams.

| Well I personally think you should stick with Mitchley Wood. I may be a little bit biased as it is within walking distance of my house though. But seriously...looking at the satellite map I don't think the building works would disturb local houses much at all. So long as it is not being at a completely antisocial hour I think it'd be ok. Plus it is only a small part of the wood which backs onto some people's gardens. I haven't been to the site but from Gable is saying it would need clearing. I would hapily offer to lend a hand clearing that site especially given its close proximity to me. Also if people wanted to make a weekend of clearing/building I'd happily offer crash space at my place in order to do so. The woods are also nice and long, they look like they would lend themselves really well to some linear roleplay. The site is extremely near the A23 as well so it is very easy to get to from the M25. TBH though it is a bit of a journey from Southampton although I'm surprised you said it took you 2 hours. Matt J

Ross Wood, which is the Skully site, is near Canterbury, so a long way from Southampton. I think that Steve has got exclusive rights too, which kinda rules it out. If you're interested, phone him and see (his number's on the site if I recall). We also have used Marshside (dull as ditch water and just as damp), Adamswell (beautiful and big if open), Hopehill (nicely sized for a small game), and Fort Amherst (amazing but expensive and open to the public). I know the Dragonsbane guys use Thriftwood which is open to LRPers and enormous. But sadly all of these are in Kent and Essex, and as such are a hell of a distance from Southampton.
Right, time to go pack, it's the Big Thing X this weekend, and I still have a lot to prep for that. Roll on the 4 days of LRP!

Well, I have been having a look around at some other sites, still trying to find one that would work for us.
I think it might be a good idea to make a list of sites that might work, have found a contact no. for Downgate Wood but no answer just yet. Looks a nice place though.
I dont really mind traveling, but I think we should get this moving on the game front as well so that this doesnt get bogged down here.
