| Oddly enough LRP has almost th reverse situation to everquest/warcraft. In an MMORPG you use OOC money to buy gold and improve your character. In LRP you use gold to buy things you cant afford OOC (massages, fine dinners in post resturants, cakes) Sure being rich OOC can help.. but being rich IC is better

OBJECTION: this discussion is about LARP, and unless you're a cosplayer, WoW does not constitute LARP in anyone's universe. OVERRULED: The principle applies - maelstrom money could be sold on Ebay in the same way. It's a valid use of an genuiine example from another type of game to illustrate what could happen in larp if principle of 'OC stuff for IC stuff' is taken to the extreme.

OBJECTION: It would be taking the piss so monumentally that it's not worth discussing.

elrohana (7/2/2008) I have not the slightest problem with dissent, assuming the point can be proved to be valid. When it boils down to just jumping up and down in the cot shouting "I want I want!" and throwing one's dummy around, then that isnot proving a point.
Y'see, this is what I'm talking about. People are expressing dissatisfaction with a particular situation and being immediately dismissed and belittled. Perhaps that's one of the mysterious Things Putting People Off Posting On Rule 7? Nah, couldn't be, only people disagreeing with a particular line discussion are allowed to use that argument...

Judge Nath?
No Nath - its not an ebay principle because you cant kill the ebay seller ic. Neither is it a direct transfer of funds. Frankly, its bollocks to compare wow to any larp - the mechanisms, social contracts are all different.
Oc cash = ic tents, tabards, costumes, props, and therefore group. Group = huge ic benefit. Thats true, but - its an ic thing - the tents can be invaded, the characters wearing the kit mullered.
All larping would have to be means tested if we wanted equality.
But if you really *want* to bug Me and are still trying because I didnt put the damm contact field in properly....Thegamefinisher@yahoo.co.uk
