elrohana (7/2/2008) I'm sorry, I can't help but feel that the negativity here is more sour grapes than any real concern for the safety of people using IC services.
The existence of sour grapes is a bad thing, no? For starters it indicates that something is imbalanced, and that people are upset about it. It's becoming quite disturbing how little value people are placing on dissent on Rule7 these days.
The rest of your post is a very good point, however.

It's becoming quite disturbing how little value people are placing on dissent on Rule7 these days. I have not the slightest problem with dissent, assuming the point can be proved to be valid. When it boils down to just jumping up and down in the cot shouting "I want I want!" and throwing one's dummy around, then that is not proving a point. Just as a point of interest, I'm not involved in any systems where IC trading happens as such - as the events are usually small, any IC use of OC material wealth is done out of pure generosity with no material IC gain to be made (the gain is more OC where such donations tend to mean the donor is seen as a 'good egg') - so this whole argument is purely hypothetical for me. In other words, I have no vested interest whatsoever in IC trading, and I STILL fail see the negatives.

I STILL fail see the negatives. Consider the extreme WoW version, where it's possible to buy IC items on Ebay for real money? I recall at CP finding trader selling Magic:the gatherings cards with pirces listed in both real money and for IC money. Not exactly the same, but it is 'OC services for IC benefits.'

This thread is epic, and has given me hours of pleasure and entertainment.
I have judged it so epic, I think it deserves its own motivational posters.

Thank you, Agent K, from the bottom of my soul; your relentless devotion to the cause of total, incurable hatstandery has redeemed what could have been a couple of otherwise boring days.

[admin hat on]
I think the discussive element of this thread is now pretty much run its course.
24 hours and I will close it, unless something substantively new is brought to the table.

Hopefully this discussion is at least encouraging more people to play thugs, with the specific remit of getting protection money from the businesses making IC money for OOC goods & services. It's got me, for one

Nath (7/2/2008)Consider the extreme WoW version, where it's possible to buy IC items on Ebay for real money? Nope, it's possible to buy IC money on ebay which you can then use in game to buy items (which are substantially less good than things that cannot be purchased with Goldz) The equivilent would be a Maelstrom player putting 1000 Marks on sale on ebay for £100 of real world cash. The social contract of lrp, and the fact that all games are small and trust based would suggest that this would happen exactly once, if ever at all. Alsn, I think you have jumped the gun relatively quickly there with the assertion that the discussive element of the thread has run its course, certainly there have been 5 or 6 points, queries or requests in the last page that Agent K is yet to respond to, and given their habit of making preposterous stubborn and outlandish comments, I would consider the debate still to be rampantly open.
