Basing whether female lrpers like combat on whether they have taken combat skills could be a bit inaccuarate of whether they like a punch up. Many LRPers that I know that are very confident in combat seldom take combat skills because they know they already have an edge in combat. They go for the more interesting non combat skills becasue they know that if a fight kicks off they can take anyone down without soft skills. So theoretically females that are confident in combat don't need skills from a game system?

Yes, I'm every wary of saying that the statistics show that women prefer not to take combat skills. All the statistics show is that women don't take offensive combat skills, in comparison with to men, in Maelstrom. There could be many reasons for those choices.

Maybe, but I'm struggling to imagine a horde of combat ready women ready to take the enemy down with their jewellery crafting skills...

There are a lot of potential explanations for the numbers, you'd have to be very careful before forming any conclusion from them. I think they're just an interesting place to start thinking about the differences between men and women in LRP.

Stranger things have happenned.....hehe

Yeah they're some interesting stats. I've been out of the LRP game for a while and the PD games do seem to have a higher proportion of females than I saw in the past...maybe the political talky side attracts such folks of the lady type? Me, I think LRP's build up certain types of cultures and Maelstrom doesn't have the Yarr Kill factor that can get tiring for anyone whatever sex they are if the best way to sort stuff is by killing it. Maelstrom has the opportunity to use other means...more thinky means. Even if it is getting someone else to do your dirty work.

Out of curiosity I just looked through the playerbase from the last 'An Evening of Science and Mystery' which it turns out from 37 players, 22 Male 14 Female.

From this I'm led to conclude...

1) Women enjoy S&M almost as much as Men

2) I have the sexiest ref team in existence at my disposal

3) Comedy third option

I think racial choices could be a dataset with interesting results.

Or it could just get my lynched. Here it is for the last event.

1.05 Wemic
1.85 Avian
2.32 Human
3.22 Dracoscion
4.20 Ophidian
4.63 Mokosh

I have a horrible feeling that with massive data and extensive analysis has allowed us to see that women like cats and men like dogs. It probably doesn't require a thousand person LRP game to guess that one...

But at least it's a definite conclusion, unlike the rest! Nice and clear cut. If you want women to larp, include cat people

I'm surprised the Mokosh ratio is quite so low, given the popularity of Bantustan and Kamakura with women. I guess the Gnolls are a very small percentage of the Mokosh in general, and the Merisusi do rather dominate the Mokosh scene (whilst not dominating the Avian scene).

Hmm, it'd be fascinating to see figures in a more typical fantasy setting. Are wemics elves (and mokosh orks)?

I'll see if I can grab some similar data from DUTT after the interactive on monday.

Ias

Maelstrom: Then: Regimental Sergeant Major Mdjai, Havocstan Army
Now: "?"
DUTT: Then: Commander J.W. Cranstan, Durholme City Guard
Now: Justice
RL: Ias

Actually, given the population size (there are relatively few wemics) I suspect it isn't all that conclusive.

Can you give us a very short synopsis of what the game is like Jon?
