Artificer having been postponed, I am considering Insurrection. But being the kit snob I am, I am interested in people's views on fashion styles...

just checking the rule book

we just ask that people dress appropriately (i.e. wear appropriate costume – somewhere between late Medieval and general fantasy fiction),

I was thinking simple robes and sandles, but the event is in october so it might be a bad idea

Somewhere between late medieval and general fantasy is a very loose guideline. I was wondering more about IC fashion rather than OC guidelines.

This is my personal opinion, rather than a considered position that Oli and I have come to after lots of consideration.  I should say that I don't tend to play characters who are very affluent or well-dressed, so fashion (rather than style) is perhaps a little beyond me.  Still...

Dwarves: Dwarvish culture ranges from the ivory tower academic to the practical woodsman, with everything in between.  So sturdy clothing in woodland colours might be appropriate (especially for a Timber Dwarf or an outdoorsman), but a Mountain Dwarf is way more likely to be wearing robes or other "comfortable" clothing.  The academics' stuff will often be of quite high-quality.

Elves: aside from your fantasy stereotypes*, there are some specifics - High Elves are much more likely to be robed, simply because they're kinda like the clergy.  Certainly, they enjoy even more privilege than most elves and ought to display that.  Regular elves are nobles of various rank; some will wear armour to show off their status, others will wear the tunic and long cloak/cotte and surcotte combo.  Others still will have a kinda buccaneer thing going on, as elves tend to populate the coast.  Dark elves are quite likely to dress like Mountain Dwarves, really.

Humans: Across the Commonwealth, humans are slaves.  This will be the background of most human PCs, even those in the Dawning Light.  They will usually dress in peasant garb suitable for tilling a field or mining.  Ones who had a cushy job (e.g. as a nanny or page in an elven household) will be better-dressed, so as to better please the eye of their masters.  Humans in the Wayfarers' Guild will similarly be dressed in simple but well-made stuff.

Orcs: Orcs are an overtly militaristic race, but this is a relatively recent development.  Tribal or even Viking garb would be appropriate for an orc who'd managed to avoid conscription, otherwise they'd be outfitted with armour and weapons appropriate to their rank.  They'd likely still be carrying talismans, medicine bags and fetishes appropriate to their tribal heritage, though.

I agree that the area of clothing/look is something we need to develop for the event, though.  Is this stuff useful as a starting point, though?

*: though most of the woodland stuff is probably somewhat inappropriate - Wood Elves are rather different and not around as PCs at the minute.

Having talked to Oli, we tend to agree on the look of the event :-D If you want any more detail, please ask!

The other thing I wanted to say was that normal orc troops have a black uniform tabard (and have Basic Military Rank). Human slave troops wear green uniform tabards. We figure that might be important for people wanting to play orc soldiers or human slaves!

Figured this was the most suitable place to ask about prosthetics, anyone able to reccomend a good place to get an Orc mask?

So I may be small but trust me, I look big enough in my armour and what I lack in size I more than make up for in midget-berzerker-sword-waving-one-legged-foaming-mouth action! Just ask this small pile of mutilated bodyparts that used to be people looking at me funny.

I am NOT going to throw LARP safe hamsters at zombies... or frogs!

A lot of the players at EOS use foam latex masks from http://www.screamteam.com/ or http://www.mostlydead.com/Foam-Latex-Prosthetics-Masks/c8/index.html?page=1&sort=3a apparently.  Back in the day, Morbid Masks were all the rage but I can't seem to find them online any more :-(

Ok, I've bought myself a latex mask along with paint and gum etc, is there going to be someone at the event that's used them before that can help me paint/apply it? I'd rather not mess it up before getting a use out of it
