Continuing a bit from 'what skills have you learned' and something I said in 'the future of UK LRP', do people take instruments to, and play at events? If so, A) is it an important part of your character, as in are you playing a minstrel/troubadour/bard/skald or other performing artist? Or is it something your character picked up while working or socialising? (They have shepherd-folk at Dumnoni, I hear. Do they play whistles or flutes?) B) what kind of instrument, what kind of occasion, and what kind of music?I`m asking because I`ve just decided I should pick up music again. (Had the obligatory recorder as a kid and a year`s worth of piano lessons as a teenager.) The main reason for this decision is because my job asks for a strong grip and I`ve noticed this is detrimental to the suppleness of my fingers. (A coworker once showed me the bumps in the palm of his hands, which I first mistook for overgrown callouses: they were bulging muscles! He couldn`t stretch his hands flat anymore and later had to undergo surgery because his tendons had petrified.) There are plenty of other reasons of course. Like a sense of rhythm is indispensable for someone who`s serious about swordfighting, and it`ll be fun at the inn if you can play a tune. Now I`ve seen people use didgeridoos and bongos in rituals, and guitars at the campfire/inn. I`m going for whistle/flute, because they`re easy to bring along (ho-hum), relatively easy to learn, and will fit most settings, and windinstruments may help me regulate my breathing. When I`ve gained some proficiency I`ll take them to events to round out my character. But I`d like to hear others` suggestions. edit: The link doesn`t quite get you where I intended. I meant to direct it to the fifth option 'spazierstockflöte' (walking stick flute).
