| Ok, here goes... i'll just wait for the stoning to commence, but what the hell! Just been blown away by pics and videos on the Conquest website over in Germany and am sitting here wondering why there is a lack of events of this caliber in the UK. Over the years, i've played LT, CP, and various others, and while, in my opinion, Maelstrom gets closer, i cant help but wonder why us Brits seem to do nothing but moan, whether its cost of running events or cost of playing events, or even cost of player kit. Now from my knowledge, things are even worse when it comes to costs in Germany, so i ask myself, and anyone who reads this, whats the problem? Is there such a lack of passion for the hobby, or have the ideas and imagination simply dried up? Are we all eventually going to migrate to Germany/Scandanavia as prices for flights plummet? I know a lot of people who are now looking further afield because of the lack of very many high quality fest events of a reasonable size. Just seems a shame... what does it take to bring the fun back to our doorstep? Now for the onslaught....

Just seems a shame... what does it take to bring the fun back to our doorstep? that's interesting. I wasn't aware of that. I did know some UK traders go over for the german fests. My understanding is that german larp, or at least their big fests are broadly comparable to ours (somewhat bigger and with better kit than LT, but still much the same). It's Nordic larp that is really 'different.'

More holidays help. In the UK you've generally got 20-25 days of annual leave and while it may just be the German office of the company I work for rather than Germany in general, they get a lot more time off than we do.
I take an IC tent to events, but only if I can get the day before and after off, even for a small tent the extra hours that set up, dressing it and take down take make it impractical otherwise. If I could afford to take a couple of days before and after for set up and take down and had a group who could do the same the props, tentage etc. would be significantly better.
Less time at work generally would help a lot with costume and props too. The UK isn't as bad as the US, but the hours we work are longer than pretty much all of Europe.

Thats not ture at all, Germany events are alot more "fest" feel, they have stage shows every night, specific Town area were their is a supermarket (like tescos) which is inside IC tents. Their is freash veg stalls, freash bread makers as well, all IC looking. they also have spefic entertainment for people (a little like the godlen apple) but alot more of them, and their not affirad of any task. If they want a fort for a camp, they simply bluid one. I know i've seen a Full ship been built on side as well.
It just seems that they talk the hobby alot more serious and its alot more popular among the genrall population. Meaning more investment and more makeing of money.

Thats not ture at all, Germany events are alot more "fest" feel, That was the point I was making. It may be better in certain ways, but it's still broadly along the same lines as UK fests in terms of format (in a way that dragonbane or system denmarc are not).

| This may not be the cause, but the phrase "can't do that_Health and Safety" seems to get used a lot, when in fact there is very little you can't do- so long as an adequate risk assessment is carried out, maybe our continental peers are a little more confident about this?
