Hello,

In the early 90's I was given some wood effect tape ( I think it was used in the kitchens or something along those lines...*shrugs* ). Im thinking of making some shafted weapons just to practice with, Me and my brother made some weapons years ago with that plumbers pipe stuff, plastic rod and the tape. Ive been to B&Q and they didnt have any, they had never heard of it. Does anyone know where to find it?....Maybe it died a death. Cheers

Oh I remember that stuff. I think it went the way of the puff ball skirt.

A long way back, I can't remember where someone at a cave based system (cough) made some wood effect weapons with it. Problem is it cracks, leaving alarming sharp edges which could and did cut ya up bad.

Hi Shelford,

Thanks for the quick reply. Looking back I think it did actually look better than it performed (it did indeed crack after all while, something I forgot about)...Oh well. Can you think of a cheap alternative that looks good?..and does the part. Ive used electrical tape which is strong, but its silver. (its ok if its cheap and nasty...its only for practice)....just plain brown tape may have to do.

Good old brown gaffa tape if you can find it? Also, I've seen mention of US boffer makers using cloth tape.

Get some vinyl floor covering "planks" the ones with texture, take a cast with plaster, then make latex mouldings and glue them on.

If you are into your weapon making it is worth doing the latex thing - simply because the more you do the more experience you get.

If they're just for a mess about however, then gaffer will do you fine.

I have found some brown gaffa tape which should be ok for what I need. I had a play around with latex some years back and I didnt do to well with it to be honest (me and my friends lacked craft skills, so the whole latex thing was doomed from the start, plus we could never get it to stay on). Thanks for the input
