I just won this polyurethane skull on eBay:

It's very pretty, but possibly not robust enough for serious LRP use (no, I don't intend it as a throwing weapon). Can anyone recommend a suitable matt varnish to protect it with that won't melt the foam, or otherwise interact with it in an unpleasant way? Chemists & materials science experts, I'm looking at you.

What NOT to use, spray varnish from Games Workshop, which should react with it and possibly destroy it. I'd really have to see it to check, saying its "what it is on ebay" doesn't really tell you a lot.

Hang on there fella! Don't do a thing to it. Find out what film it is from first. Slapping varnish or a clearcoat on it is very unlikely to effect PU foam however the paint job might be destroyed. Please, please find out what film it's from. If it's from the new Indie film then you'll be laughing all the way to the bank, however I can't see someone flogging a big feature film prop on t'bay for a few quid.
