The first May Bank Holiday weekend saw the first event of the new volume of Bladelands, a high-fantasy, low-hit system with a penchant for FnH-style linears.  The basic set-up is that for £60 you play the whole weekend, or for £30 you get a "Play and Assist" ticket.  In practice, the vast majority of people go for the £30 ticket.  In an event that ran from Friday evening until Monday lunchtime, everyone had two three- or four-hour crewing slots (one on Saturday, one on Sunday), to bulk out the standing crew team of five people (three refs, two others).

This event was much smaller than some previous ones (18 players, 5 crew/refs), mainly due to some last-minute drop-outs due to work commitments, and clashing with about eighty million other LRP events.  Still, it was a hectic and highly enjoyable event, that's set us up for the rest of Volume Two.

The site used was Stock Wood, run by the Legion of Dreams.  I liked it a lot, although the amenities are rather basic and the site rather imposes its own identity on things.  The roundhouses are brilliant, the midges are infuriating!

IC, the set-up was that we had come to a meeting with the Keltoi to see about getting some land to start a new fief, away from the trials and tribulationsthat beset Lord Thomas' (the scene of Volume One).  We had to complete a number of trials, some based on our combat prowess (whether individually or as a group) and some based on things like performing rituals, crafting items and so on.  There was plenty of tension, brought about through conflicting IC priorities and existing problems.  We ended the event successful, but having restarted a war with an old enemy...

I'd definitely recommend Bladelands for some old-school fun; next event is June 13-15 in Staffordshire.  Hope to see you there!
