A valid point. I did consider going through all the major system rules and noting the max/min lengths of weapons but I decided to go with what looked right when making stuff. I dare say I could trim an inch off making a kukri, but to be honest they feel and look more like a short sword. If someone really, really wants something in a specific size I can give it a go.

Scabbards? It breaks my heart to send these things out without scabbards. I seriously considered only selling weapons with scabbards, but that would push prices out of many folks comfortable buying range. Plus construction time would be a problem. Scabbard(ed) weapons may be something I will look at later in a 'Luxury' range.

I really want one, but I made myself promise not to buy more weapons without scabbards, as I'm rubbish at making them, and otherwise consistently fail to get good scabbards, that look right and don't cause the weapons to fall out.  So if you manage a scabbard option - or do a one-off to see how it goes (and fancy selling it), please let me know by PM.

I'd love to be able to buy more weapons with pre-made scabbards - I went to the last Maelstrom with money to spend and left with it in my pocket because I didn't see anything with a scabbard ready-made.

Kessboy, that's interesting to know. I've found in the past that folks gasp at the price of scabbards. Often they may cost more than the weapon. Scabbards can take equal time to make as a weapon, sometimes more. Leather and fittings can cost a fair bit too. So it all adds up. I'm really not sure about pricing, but if/when I have a go at scabbards I'll PM yah.

Excellent!

I understand people gasp at the price sometimes, but getting good, well fitted full leather scabbards tends to be a nightmare...I'll eagerly await a PM at some point...Thanks!

Thanks alot for the safety info. I imagined it was something you'd made sure of but just wanted to check.

I would become interested if there was a scabbard option, but dont use me in any marketing calculations for I am poor and would not necessarily be able to buy one.

As others have mentioned matey, stick to 18" maximum as Maelstrom and quite a few other systems maximum "Knife or Dagger" is 18".  Pretty standard larp conventions followed:

up to 18" Dagger - 24" Short Sword - 36" Standard Sword - 42" Bastard Sword - 48" to 60" War Sword / Two hander.  Least that's how I deal with it

Please stick to 19" -- that extra inch makes all the difference! Don't listen to anyone whinging that they can't count it as a dagger in their favourite system -- who cares?!? It's not a dagger, it's a kukri!

Anyway, how many weapon checkers are going to know how to measure a curved weapon...
