7th Sea is a Live Role Play game set within the world of Theah. Theah is a world that is very similar to our own Earth in the late 17th Century, but with a few notable exceptions. Theah is a world where monsters roam the seas, a threat to traders, navies and pirates alike; a world where folktale is more often as like folk-fact; where people are born with magic in them and the fairies at the bottom of the garden are not there to bring you good luck!
Theah is a world full of political intrigue, diverse peoples, far unexplored lands and unstable magic use. A person has to be quick witted to progress with their adventure that is called life.
Yet in all this there is a place for the noble act, the kind comment, the meeting of intellectuals, and the desire to explore the world and what makes it work.
In the Isle of Avalon our gathering takes place. Lady Catherine Torrington is young, intelligent, wealthy, and currently unattached: A beacon for research into the past, and a hope for the future. She is an avid collector of ancient artifacts and all things weird and wonderful. Her works have made her an up and coming member of the extended court of Queen Elaine. Lady Torrington’s contacts stretch the whole world and favour tends to bring fortune to those she supports. Her parties are open to anyone with a noble heart, or at least those who believe they have a noble heart! They are filled with politics and very often they also end up as the talk of the month on the noble circuit.
Capable, interested, able and curious, you have heard she is planning a party. Can she help you? Can you help her? Do you seek to further yourself? Do you have a noble quest with which she may assist you? Gentry of all the lands of Theah, welcome.

I guess this is a straight riff on the tabletop game?
If so... How much of what's in the published material is accurate - or thereabouts.
And are foreign characters welcome?

Much of the Tabletop Book is accurate... and i encourage players to read and/or buy a copy of the players guide if they can find one... that is however harder than it sounds as the book we use is now out of print.
All of the world history listed in the AEG book, and synopsis info for each country is the same... The differences are to be found within our own setting/ storyline and our interpretations of where do we go now is different... We have taken the world of theah provided by AEG and written our own story for players to participate in. The main differences are the fact that the tabletop book is written with adventuring in mind and the game we run is much more political, Avalonian noblity etc. We have made small alterations (ie for obvious reasons due to inability to do in LARP, some forms of magic and creatures etc have been altered) but the majority of the players guide is accurate in terms of background. For obvious reasons we have written rules for use in LARP which differ from the roll and keep system or D20 system used in the 7th sea book.
To answer your question about other countries.... a definate yes! If you are completely unfamiliar with the setting then i recomend you are Avalonian, however we do have other characters from different parts of the world. If you wish to play a character from another country then you are responsible for researching the country you are from and submitting a history before your first game.

What kind of restrictions do you have on secret societies, magics, swordsmans schools? How do swordsman schools work in larp? do they allow you to use unusual weapons combinations, call extra damage? I can see things like higher levels of porte for example being difficult to fit into larp, without calling large timefreezes.
I understand that it is more a political game - does this mean the combat(should it come up) is done from stats (ala World of Darkness MET) or is it done with larp weapons?

Ok...
There are no restrictions on secret society membership except that you must declare it to the Game Team before your first downtime.
Magic - is completely rewritten... sorry the forms of magic that occur in the AEG 7th Sea book do not feature in the LARP version. You can be a magic user, but the forms of magic are ramdomly selected between combat magic, medical magic and Detect Magic.
Swordsman schools - Other than prestige they dont really play a part, there are no restrictions, as with secret societies you need to mention it in your character history... and feel free to brag about it! However they give you no physical advantage at the event you may be able to get a political advantage i.e allies.
Weapons - 7th Sea Live is a traditional LARP system... with LARP safe weapons. To attack someone or something with a LARP weapon you must have the Melee skill however how good you are at it depends only on how good you actually are at it! The melee skill represents the mind set required to cause physical harm.
I hope this answers some of your questions.

hmm. thats a shame - I liked the nationalised magics of seventh sea. Still, its a fantastic setting, and I may be tempted to come along.
