I'm doing some work for C 4 which involves researching the habits of 14-19 yr olds, who'd be described as Goths, Geeks and/or Emos.

For each of those "tribes" - and for each region of the UK - I need to know:

Where do they buy stuff? - what small independent shops would they go to to buy clothes, and specifically accessories like badges...

If you could help, I'd be grateful.

The project is for an Internet consultancy I work for - other people involved include Neil who does site set up at PD and Rupert who you might remember most recently as a late night noodle salesman. We know people don't really describe themselves as Goths, Geeks or Emos, or fit to a single stereotype, but it's a useful shorthand for the kind of person we mean...

Pretty much everyone shops in Hellfire these days. In Glasgow we also have two notable shops: Isis and Osiris. One family owns them, hence the similar themed names.

Internet is also a good resource, and any shop that sells band merchandice.

Anything else?

PS: To be fair the goth movement is a thing of the 80s and today you only get posers dressed up in black and wearing black make up As of Emos... don't talk to me about emos X(

In Sheffield, I'd say Division Street in the town center is a good start. Rocky Horror for clothing/band merchendise or badges/jewellery. Although there are several nice little independant boutiques round there that I frequent.

Hm, other than that there is the Forum, which is also on Division Street, which is a small precinct full of independant shops that sell the same sort of clothing and badges etc.

Also, Meadowhall (Sheffield's out of town shoppping mall) has a few "alternative" type shops, noteably Cleopatra's in The Lanes (area of smaller shops within the mall), and a few others in the same area.

Thats a helluva lot of shops. I'm assuming from 'small independant that rules out chains such as Blue Banana. Its worth noting that alot of so called alternative clothes and accessories can be bought at supposedly mainstream chains such as claires accessories, HMV, H+M - although girl's clothes and accessories are often more available than guy's.

Coventry - Bubble, Kong CV1, Rowfers (though I think its closed down now, and may be a chain)

Birmingham - Oasis market (contains lots of different shops/stalls)

Leeds - Corn Exchange (lots of 'alternative' stalls of various stripes)

Manchester - Aphlex Palace (again, lots of independent stalls)

Swansea - The Kasbah, Something different (both within Swansea market), Gringo, Hobos, Twisted

London - Camden Market - nuff said really.

Care to elaborate on what its for?

I rekon there are loads of small shops in every city and a lot of small towns, but I bet more stuff gets bought at gigs, festivals and from ebay than anywhere else.

I could be wrong thou. . .

I run a Young People's Centre which is used almost exclusively by "alternative" young people, most of them buy on the internet but they also organise shopping trips to Birmingham or more frequently Manchester.

There are 2 shops in Wrexham, but only 1 of them is a specialist clothes shop, it's prices are comparable with e shops and with similar shops in larger towns/cities, the other is more of a head shop selling paraphernalia, body jewelry and psuedo celtic/pagan items- most of the accessories come from here.

Glasgow also has Cyber which is a little less well known as it's a bit off the City Centre.

as for internet sites I've bought stuff from www.theorderofinitiative.co.uk which originally started out as a site for selling seperate models for D&D Minis and expanded to include gothic clothing (right hand menu bar)

Also in terms of Geekery I'd say A1 comics (obvious) Dragon and George (Gaming) and Static Games (ditto) and possibly Flip in terms of clothing.
