Currently trying to design a LRP safe bear trap. I figured the best way to get the trap to shut would be a lever that is stepped on, but I'm not sure of a method to hold it shut once that's happened. I'm considering elastic, but I'm not sure how to stop the elastic pulling the trap shut by itself without it being set off.

Any thoughts?

It's all about where the pivot points are compared to where the elastic is "set."  Get that drawing and if it doesn't work i've got on in my head too.  PM me.

Been working on this idea on and off for a while

I've based my plans on how a gintrap really works

If we can get it to work I can see lots of people wanting one

I think I've worked out how to do it mechanically. The real clincher will be making the non-foam parts durable, safe and cheap.

Nice to know I'm not the only one who had the idea

Fibreglass, Tufnol, ABS (or other engineering plastics).....the list is endless

What do you need propertywise and I'll try to give you the best options

Property-wise? Not sure I'm following you. I was just going to knock a few together for kicks. I wasn't really considering it as a money-making venture.

Properties are what the material behaves like, like the properties of glass are transparent, breakable and re-usable by melting

Not properties as in ownership
