Back on topic, films I have refused to watch all the way through on DVD include "Fight Club", "Jackie Brown", "Ghost", "Snatch" and anything in the "slasher-horror" genre. I have a number of reasons, including;
a) Tarantino is nothing but a hyped-up one-trick-pony who hides his incompetance in scripting and editing by smothering his films in completely OTT gimmicks. His fan-boys deserve nothing but pity and scorn.
b) slasher films suck (no, I'm not squeamish. I just hate being made to jump by something so shit)
c) If a film claims to be "art", the director should be shot. Film is entertainment.

How odd... a number of reasons.... none of which appear to apply to fight club.

"I just hate being made to jump by something so shit" I maintain that if you believe this (slasher) is a single genre then you need to watch more. However yes mostly its terrible....

Is that so? A hundred years worth of film making disagrees with you.

Windtalkers.

The travesty being the concept was good. It was just the acting, direction and story that sucked mammoth balls.

Really? I thought the concept sucked as well.

I did write a massive long post about how great Jackie Brown is but its all about subjective taste so I'll just say I think its fantastic and we can agree to disagree.

So a Film cannot be art, I dont think I know how to reply to that... your mind must be very closed. Maybe its because of that attitude that Hollywood keeps knocking out shite like 'Shooter'. I've seen films which I do regard as art, very fine pieces of art in fact (some less so but thems the breaks) and I feel sorry for you that you'll never be moved or changed by experiencing them.

Oh and my own most awful film is probably Transformers, certainly the worst film I've seen in the last three or four years. Its crap because it clearly cost a fortune to make but after the first half an hour (which has one or two ok moments) the director appears to get locked in a cabinet and a chimp, an actual chimp, takes over and directs the rest of the film. Awful acting, the worst waste of John Tutoro (sp?) I've ever seen, a robot pisses on a guy and I'm supposed to think thats funny (other grown ups laughed at it, its a good thing I wasn't armed), its also midly racist in places (Yes it fucking is, it plays on a bunch of racial stereotypes), and AND the Decepticon plan made no sense! "Oh the decepticon came here to convert human technology into transformer technology, and he's been here for thousands of years" What kind of technology was he after thousands of years ago, fucking pyramid building? Big pile of stinking rotton bollocks.

I didn't say film cannot be art, just that art should not be the primary purpose of film. Actually, wait, I didn't say that - sorry,my previous post was not very well phrased. I have in fact seen and enjoyed many films that are artistic, and have a great deal of merit in that regard, it's just that my personal opinion (and please, let's not forget that this entire thread can only be based upon personal opinion, as there is no right or wrong way of considering the subject) is that no film should be made in order to be art. It should be made as entertainment.

I would thank you not to name me close-minded on the basis of one comment. You do not know me. You do not know my opinions, save for one somewhat bile-induced comment.

With regards "Fight Club" - I do not like that film because I find subliminal imaging disturbing and inappropriate, and also because of issues I have with the scripting and editing processes used in that film. I will agree the concept is an interesting one - I just do not think it is well executed. Again, this is personal opinion, and people are free to disagree.

As for the slasher genre - I have watched (under duress) a number of examples that friends have claimed to be good examples of the type - the fact that each of these examples failed to entertain or interest me in any way seems to me justification for saying I do not like that type of film. I'm sure that if I was willing to endure hours of tedium and disgust I might be able to find one or two with some spark of interest, but I'm not willing to do that. It would be like eating a barrel full of rotten apples to check if any were still edible.
