H (6/17/2008) It's just a shame the official language is english - I'd love orcs not to understand "human language".
Well, nothing forbids you to role-play that you don't understand the "human language".
And remember that other languages are authorised dialects in the world, so it's really possible that you try to listen in on a human tribe, but since they speak the Danish 'dialect' you won't understand it.
PS: we are thinking of having the event next year in the first weekend of september 2009, is that a good choice to get UK people, or is that the same weekend as Maelstrom?

Damn, only found out about this the other week. Unfortunately it has proved a bit short notice to get a group of people together, arrange transport and, importantly, apply for a passport.
Next year for definite.

Jerm (6/18/2008) PS: we are thinking of having the event next year in the first weekend of september 2009, is that a good choice to get UK people, or is that the same weekend as Maelstrom?
It's complicated because of bank holiday weekends... The bigget weekend event in the UK is the Gathering which is the weekend of the last monday in August, also the date of CP another large LRP event. Maelstrom is generally set to leave a two week gap from that date, since we have a lot of players who do the LT and CP.
2008 Maelstorm is the second weekend after the last monday in August which is the first weekend in September.
For 2009, the ideal Maelstrom date (not fixed yet) will be the second weekend in September.
So if you pick that day then it will likely fall squarely between Maelstrom and the Gathering/CP.
If you went a few weeks later then you may get English players, if folks prefer some kind of gap in their LRPing weekends, but you probably won't clash with a big UK LRP event on that date.
History is an important source for LRP. Along with other works of fiction.

Hey, looking forward to seeing you next year.
Can you let me know if the date for next year is ok for your group: first weekend of september 2009 (ie: 4-6 th of September 2008).

Ok, thanks for the info. I'll check with my team. We're changing our date from July to September as we are now to close to popular music festival and the big Avatar larp-fest here in Belgium. So if we set a date for 25th-26th of September (4th weekend) then we won't clash with Maelstrom and have a gap in between.

Just make sure it's a date when UK schools aren't on holiday, public transport and presumably flight prices go up during school hols, in the UK at least.

Ah, now that would be good.
You see I like my LARP phys-repping to be as accurate as possible. I like the 100% IC camp ideas you're running with. So in the same way I'd like not to have to pretend that a plastic plate is wooden, I'd like not have to pretend to not understand a "human" conversation. I know I can _roleplay_ not understanding "human", but I can do that in the UK.
If you see what I mean. I'm sure I could have worded that better. It's not a big thing.

Matt's answered this better than I could...
