Personally I'm very proud of the job we did with the Amun Sa a while back - we even made the cover of the new rules books too
Painting the teeth onto the lower jaw helped to 'angy up' the catfolk imo and avoiding traditional cute button noses and whiskers added more.
Foip - the LARP equivalent of jumping up and down singing "nah nah na na nah I've got a secret and I'm not telling you!"

'Basic Wemic' appears to be 'black or dark under nose, black or dark lips', usually with a line between them and either dots or lines for whiskers next to them on the cheeks, then some kind of plausible cat-fur colour on the rest of the face. Bonus points for markings / natural looking blended colours / extra 'this is fur' bits if done well.
The Cat Nose prosthetics (as modelled mostly by the Bastet, I think) are pretty good too, but basically need the same makeup job over the top. I also actually quite like 'kitty ears' because they give your silhouette a different shape (although it's awkward to get ones that stay on, match your makeup colour, don't have an obvious band looking lame holding them on, etc etc). Possibly they would be a bit risque stuck through your Amun-sa wemic's head covering though.
I figure you could get away with 'black under nose, black line down to lips, black lips, dots or lines for whiskers' and nothing else if your black was bold and stood out enough, although it would be a bit lame.
I'm not too keen on masks for wemics, probably because I've adapted my senses to see 'cat makeup' as 'wemic' (and the prosthetics just enhance 'cat makeup' rather than replacing it) and so a mask makes me double-take (my first thought for 'animal mask' is 'mokosh', not 'wemic', even if with a moments thought it does clearly resolve as 'cat mask'). I think that masks do tend to make you seem less tame/civilised and more feral though, which could be good for Tritoni wemics.

| With regards to national variation, I and a few of the Amun-sa do try to make our eyes noticeably "Egyptian". Full face make-up or prosthetics always strike me as the best option by far; masks tend to confuse me. I did, however, see a gentleman wearing a very convincing Wemic mask at the cavalcade. I shall try to dig out a picture. Possibly [ears] would be a bit risque stuck through your Amun-sa wemic's head covering though. That and we would have you beaten for not covering your head properly, you filthy kufr!

not sure if this has been tried before, but I'm wondering what sort of look/effect paint mixed with that green stuff used on the bases of Warhammer models(called flock or something like that), would look like on skin.
dependent on how it comes out, it 'could' work as a variant of texture for markings
or it could look like you've been rubbing find sandpaper down your face.
i would try it but I dare not go into that place anymore seeing as things that were £3 are now £8, hate to think how much that stuff has gone up by..

You can get quite a nice fur effect by taking a natural sponge and stippling over the top of your makeup in a slightly lighter colour.

This tip not original, but was given to me by Neil Hughes. He's awesome, him.

I was going to run for parliament, because I want to make the world a better place, but I ran into some old friends and went out for a beer instead.

| If you are going for a mask option, Morbid masks do a very nice (and cheap) cat mask (white or black as default, but I believe they do other colours on request). It's a domino mask with cat ears (I've used this a little in maelstrom myself, but don't know of any photos of it) As for fur, I recommend beards

You can also get fan brushes (Da Vinci makes some nice ones) which can be used to create a fur effect with a bit of practice.

| Says I, who goes not to Maelstrom but has had a variety of feline costumes over the last eight years. Current effect (see avatar) One Half mask (i.e. cut off to expose the lower jaw.) Paint half mask as required. Blanks of the mask used for mine are available from: http://www.claydragonprops.co.uk/ (Masks not on website which is way basic and a bit poor... but contacts list is good. Pete Williams who made the mask worked on Charlie and the Chocolate factory SFX) Match bottom jaw and exposed flesh to mask colours, remember the makeup needs to extend down your throat/neck and cover your ears completely. Pink showing ears (IMHO) are awful. I find fur effects work best by painting thin 'fleck' lines by drawing the lighter colour over the darker. Pure black effect is difficult to acheive as the lack of colour differentiation makes it difficult to create 'depth' with paint and will tend to flatten a mask. Mix in a little silver with the base Black on the nose and it will give a slightly 'wet' effect. Take a l;eather punch and put holes in a line through the forehead of the mask, attach hair, dreadlocks through said holes, make sure the dreads or hair are long enough to tie back. Add additional Dreads to your own hair/ponytail. Place ears on alice band. put on ears. Put on mask, pull dreads from mask back between ears and tie into your ponytail. For those of you without the advantage of having long hair there are alternatives, failing access to a costumer wigger headbands and hair attached to that or in hats also provides a cover.
