Just to let everyone know I'll be heading up the Oriental faction at the new HeroFest event which takes place over the Mayday weekend.

The faction obviously has an oriental/far eastern flavour and I'll be going for a Mongol/Hirkanian nomad sort of feel for the command if anyone would like join my own clan.

Feel free to PM me with any ideas or queries and Mark at Heroquest is open to suggestions or ideas and obviously kniows much more than I do about the whole thing.

This has the potential to be amazing, so give it a shot.

Yeah pretty much, through in Nadir, Hirkanians, Chiatze etc from fantasy literature and it'll make for an interesting mix.

I quite like the idea of the formality of the Imperial beaurocratic cultures, mixing with the raw "live for the day" nature of the steppe nomads.

I think it'd also be cool if we had some of the mythical oriental races- even though the system doesn't give advantages, the diversity gives us a lot of scope for role playing. (D&D Oriental adventures is a good source as it's not overly complicated)

Ooh, that is hugely tempting, Andy.

Hmm... I have the right bow, and the right helmet... time to think about what kind of armour & tunic to wear.

Bedlum, can't see why not (if necessary we can make in camp rules to make it more family friendly), it makes a camp feel more real if families are there.

Ian- go on you know it makes sense.

This is potentially a great faction for frustrated archers and there's a wealth of cultural backgrounds we can draw on.

Does anyone have a yurt?

Yeah... now I've read the rules, though, I don't much fancy being an archer who can't do anything else at all (they only get Bow skill, not 1-handed weapon, etc.). So I'll likely play a Soldier or Militiaman. I do very much fancy getting along to the event, though.

Edit -- probably Militiaman. I don't have a shield that's narrower than shoulder-width, so Soldier is out.
