I'm aiming to run a 24 hour time in high fantasy game in the far South East of England, Kent to be exact. We've got the plot, the rule system, and concepts worked out, but we're at a loss as to where we can play. Having gone through Scoutbase, it looks like we've only got 4 contenders. However only one of those is suitable. We're looking at attracting local players, and will have a player base of about 20-30, and so the larger more secluded sites further afield are out of the picture. Can anyone recommend any suitable sites in Kent, Essex, London or Sussex?
Thanks

| Few questions..... Do you need buildings or camping only? Do you need exclusive access? How long is the event running for?

We don't need buildings though it would help, I'd like to have the game away from the public obviously, though exclusive access is not a necessity. The event will be Friday night to Sunday afternoon.

| Theres a place down near Eastbourne that Spearhead have used in the past. Has a roundhouse and some land there. I think he has a limit on the number of people allowed to use it at any one time though. If you PM Simon (he uses the name Burger on here) he might be able to put you in touch Theres a couple of YHA's down that way that might be of use too

Hi guys.
We've found our site, and have a preliminary date. I've got lots of ideas for it, but I would like to speak to people about how a fully IC game will work. I've some experience with running 10am til midnight weekend events, but I've no experience of longer time events, from either a player or a ref perspective. Does anyone have any advice to help me out?
The game's going to be high fantasy, low numbers, low hp, gritty and brutal, but how's best to organise it? Shifts and dedicated night time monsters?

From my limited experience of failing at running longer-time events after running 10am-midnight style weekend events, you want to think about the following:
1) Making sure your players all get adequately fed and watered, can keep warm and dry for the most part, and have access to toilet facilities. They are going to get OOC tired, which will start increasing their OOC discomfort, so you need to make sure their OOC comfort with everything else is well-looked-after or they will start dropping out of character to complain and/or cease caring about the game and leave the site / just fall asleep.
2) You need a lot more plot / encounters / whatever is driving your game than you think you do. It's very important to keep tired players busy (although maybe not so much with the huge running around) or it's easy to slip out of character / get bored when you're sitting exhausted around a campfire. If there's always something happening you don't start to think 'why am I here and why am I not asleep?' quite so much.

| You have got to think about the times you will be ic being ic for 24 hours is allot more fun than being ic for 10 or so for me however its not for everyone players who are less fit or older may become very tired after 24, others may run out of things to discuss ic and get board. If you know the players well it may help in your decision. There is a grate deal of things to think of plot and monsters are particularly delicate areas. The best idea is to run a few D and D games or something to get use to writing or improvising plot. If the system is PVP the plot can be very simple. Or so I've seen.

Plot's not an issue, as said, I currently write plot for and help run a fest-style game that runs from 10 am til midnight. It's the approach to it that I'm more interested in. The advice ChessyPig gave was very helpful, particularly keeping them comfortable OOC so they can stay IC easily, and overwriting on the plot front.
I'm planning to do the game plot as a single shot wide story, reacting to the players actions, with a judicious use of NPCs to add to the atmosphere, to aid them, be found dead or whatever. I'm not aiming for cutting edge, instead I'd like a solid, high challenge hardcore PvE adventure, with constant IC. I'd like to use noises, night-time hunts, and so on to try and keep the atmosphere up all night, with crew operating in shifts to try and ensure that we keep the players and the crew comfortable but that the atmosphere doesn't drop leading people to fall OOC.
Is that a sensible aim?

| I've run a few 24hr games, and played a few more. The first piece of advice would be to think about *why* you want 24hr time-in, and whether your players/crew can hack it. If you're still 'go' after that, make sure you have a couple of trusted crew/refs you can trust to 'just run stuff' in case the players are getting bored, or you need to spice things up - overwriting is a good plan here. You might be busy (asleep or NPCing), and not realise something needs to be done to keep the pace going. Make your crew sleep, make sure you sleep, get your crew to agree in advance to crewign throughout the night. It might even be good to assign shifts before the game, so the drivers etc get the easier ones. You're unlikely to do constant IC attacks - so think about whether your players will enjoy the periods of inaction during the night, where some keep watch while the others rest. Decide in advance whether you're willing to kill the whole party if a few of them decide they can't be bothered to keep watch and go to sleep instead. Think about lighting, if you want violence, and it's pitch black, this might be a concern - accidents are more likely when it's dark and people are deprived of sleep. Think about food - it might be good to discourage some attacks while they eat - as CheesyPig says, considering OOC comfort is important (unless discomfort is a theme). Also, in terms of toilets, if they're IC in a barn, and need a piss - but there are monsters about outside, blocking the way to the toilets, think about what you're going to do. You'd be amazed at how annoying a situation this can be...I speak from more than one experience...different people have different opinions on what's acceptable...
