ok everyone..

i have a full design and its all good..

only issue is..

if taken to a larp system, would a rather loud rattle (akin to the ones of yore, the humble wooden football rattles) be ok, with the full capability for the refs to go "JAM!" and the crew to promptly be able to take the chamber apart and clean each barrel before re-assembling and re-firing

or would as a base, refs want it to fire caps.....

if thats the case does anywhere sell caps larger than the tiny ons

Thanks

(and yes, once i have the first proto-type knocked out i will sell them.. to larpers... and yes.. it'll probably be cheaper than you think)

not really sure what your options are. Bangers? Caps would be a right nightmare

I once tried a rattle like that at an indoor vampire and they nearly threw me out. We never used caps indoors either, though.

I think the rattle should be fine.

If you have specific games in mind, Lucas, then why not ask their organisers individually, since you're not getting answers from them here?

Perhaps you've done that already though.

Thing is, I don't think there are many games where a Gatling gun would be allowed, regardless of phys-rep details. I don't know of any at present. So it's not surprising if you're not getting definitive answers here.

Sounds like a fun prop anyway. If you do find yourself wanting things bigger than caps, how about using something like those cap bombs to phys-rep the cartridges?

Caps might be possible, if you go for the single-shot ones, and have a belt-feed that you can reload...

As to Caps, I have a "belt feed" type cap strip, 11 caps in a line, I think you could knock together some sort of feed mech for it and away.  Other than that i'd go for the 8-shot ring caps - the bang will still be big depending on how open the area is around the mechanism - I test fire and shoot a lot of caps as I sell replica firearms for Maelstrom.  They sound pretty loud to me, enough to show it was firing and any nearby player to go "MOMMA!"  Especially if the Gatling gun is pointing their way.....

and as for a clacker mechanism, bollox to that!  Stick to a hammer-on-caps type.  Would be much nicer.  Your "it's a simple thing and needs reloading a lot" would work well if it only fires 10-ish shots.

I'm going to echo the 'make it for a specific system(s)' sentiment!

There are people out there doing modern and sci-fi lrp, and some of them would let you use that type of weapon.  I'll be interested to hear about what you end up with...and disagree that caps are neccessary.  If the 'clack' is loud, then that might well be fine.
