I always wanted to do a "bug hunt" type game. be it aliens, vampires, or whatever.
just the players loading up and kicking ass. any thoughts?

Sounds like it could be a giggle. I guess it could turn out to be a bit like a giant linear if you're not careful but if its a one off game I don't think that would matter at all!

I've always liked the idea of a DOOM LRP. I've been on Alien/Pred games and they work really well. Story/plot can even be included.

I think it would have to be a one off TBH. purely as the sort of films it's based on have a lacking in the plot dept. Though that isn't always true. Resident Evil, for example, has a rather substantial plot considering what the film essentially is: Killing Zombies.
I think main problem is getting crew willing to be hosed down by gunfire every ten minutes!

I think main problem is getting crew willing to be hosed down by gunfire every ten minutes! I'd go for a weekend event with 3(ish) scenarios running with breaks in between for players and monsters to chat and froth about how cool encounters have been. Monstering gun fodder for hours on end would all weekend would get a bit samey.

I think the other way to do would be to set objectives (not so much "Plot" as things that need to be done in a set order) so it's not mindless shooting.
Of course, you could always stick proper plot in at the same time. though I feel this sort of game would likely to be plot lite.

Well IIRC, most of the times such things as ammo are very, very limited. This gives a more "gamey" feel to such things as capturing supply depots etc. It depends really. Certain people have the idea that you can have three "linears" in a weekend with very high prop standards, i.e. you have 24 people, 16 of whom crew at any one time.
Oooh.... Space Hulk/Space Crusade... And you have say, Eldar, Marines and Chaos all looking to get stuff off a 'Stealer infested ship. That would give your monster crew something to get their teeth into.... :-D
There is only overconfidence and terror.
