Hi folks, a background character concept is long overdue from me, so with the creation of a new character, here's his accompanying background:

Name: Tishin
Race: Human
Character: Mage – Earth Sphere

From an early age, I remember clambering mischievously up and down on my parent’s wooden cart, ‘For the love of the gods, sit down Tishin’, my mother would shout as we journeyed along the ever so tiresome dirt tracks between villages and the cities beyond.

We were a family of traders, originating from the great city of Bormac. My father and mother traded beautifully coloured carved masks and other decorative facial ornaments that proved so popular in the cities, but less so in the neighbouring villages.

We led a comfortable lifestyle, ate of the finest and tender selections of meats and drank of the ever so plentiful supply of wines. Oh, but how I hated those long journeys.

I was known by name to most of the people we encountered along our journeys path and in particular to the field farmers we passed by, not through any conversation we’d had, but instead from the chastisements I’d receive from my mother as she turned so often to catch me pelting the farmers with the shiny stones that my parents kept in abundance, from the back of the cart.

“What’s wrong with you Tishin, you silly boy?” she would shout.

Why could she just not see how spirit destroying it was for me, these long arduous journeys, the heat of the sun and dirt of the track sapping my life’s breath from me? I lost count of the many times I asked the gods to end my life and to just take me, hmm, such is the folly of youth.

Life steered a different course once I reached 15, “You’re now old enough to share your brothers cart”, my father told me with a smile. Finally and thankfully, I was free from the ever-watchful eye of my mother.

Corrig, steered our families second cart, it rode behind my parents and carried the supplies of wine, food, tools, herbs and medicine, pulled by those strange looking beasts.

I forget how many times we narrowly escaped losing our cargo as the cart almost toppled over, due to leaving the edge of the dirt track. You see, from the age of 15 and for the next 7 years of life, everything became quite a blur for my brother and me, as we helped ourselves to the barrels of wine that were stacked behind us.

Of course mother was first to notice that the barrels didn’t seem to be lasting as long as we journeyed and asked us on a daily basis to check their spouts for leakage. How we convinced her that it was her imagination, to this day, is still a mystery for me. However, I’m sure that father knew; yet he said nothing.

This revelry continued until my 22nd year of life, but that’s when it all changed. I’ll never forget the disturbing events that came to pass. It happened only twice for the first month, but four times the second month and with each subsequent month that passed, these occurrences seemed to double in number.

Innkeepers, whom my parents had known for many years, began to turn us away, these were our friends, but all used the same tongue, “she is ill, she’s disturbing our guests, we’re frightened by her, she needs help, try the next village”.

Night after night it happened, at the same time, just before dawn, the screams, the soul chilling, ear piercing screams…”THEY’RE COMING!”

Father looked so helpless and puzzled, as he whispered comforting words to my mother, visible was the anguish of the unknown that was taking place around us.

I am now 33 years old and I am alone. I am beyond recognition.

I have travelled great distances and killed numerous foes. Life no longer comforts me. Earth, fire, hatred, death and vengeance are my only friends.

But how I miss her so much.

Occasionally, I find myself breaking into open ground, should I stumble across any field that displays several dozen or more beautiful flowers in bloom, whilst I try to survive from one area to the next.

For it is here that I feel the soft touch of her palms, lovingly caress my face. It is here that I smell her flowery scented perfume. It is here that I hear her gentle lullaby songs. It is here that she wraps me in her arms and whispers “Be strong Tishin, my son”.

My early memories are fading. I cannot recall the last time I slept.

hello to all refuge larpers I thought I'd start off by saying hello and I'm nick. I also i have a favor to ask i have been to maelstrom a couple of times but still new to larping, i finally stop going to maelstrom because of money so i found this because i friend of mine told me this was a great larping experience, I did have kit until the beginning of this year when my house was broken into and every thing got token now all i have left is my Victorian shirt and i was wondering if any one could help us out for kit for the 12-13 of June after this event i should able to get some of my own gear but until then I'm stuck. so any kit anyone can lend would be fab, I also have 2 friends that has never been larping before and might be coming so if anyone could lend a basic kit for them would be appreciated we have pants, shirts and will have caps once we have made them but as for weapons we don't have the time or money yet to get any before the event.

all my thank nick Rayner

Hey there, nick! You finally made it to rule 7, then?

Just to let you know, I did get your e mail, but I've been massively busy - I'm off to scarborough today for a week, yay! Still, these guys will be able to see you right.

Ciao!

Hey Nick,

Pleased to meet you and glad to hear your coming to our event. The new website will be updated over the coming week with the updated background info etc. Your character concept is very important to us and we like to have some idea of what you are considering playing before the event.

I wouldnt worry about the rules as you can pick those up at the first event (and restat if you like). As far as costume and kit goes we usually lend kit to new players for the first two months so theres nothing to worry about there.

Let us know what your thinking of playing through a pm and we will put aside some gear for you.

Regards
