I know, sounds like a misnomer but bear with me.
I've had this idea. I've been playing with the Stargate crew now for a couple of years and it is a rather open system, where a player, if they have a good idea can run an event with the help of an established ref team.
The joy of the Stargate system and universe is that it is very adaptable, another belief system is just another world, mythologies can fit into the structure of the game universe if you are careful about it.
So, I thinks, why not do a horror themed Stargate event? Put the players in an indoor site, add liberal doses of 'The Thing' lots of Quatermass, and other stuff (secret shh don't want to give the game away).
However this will be my very first event, never mind a horror one.
If I get the site I want it will be at an indoor site in Winter (lots of darkness, surrounded by woods). I'm looking at time in on Friday evening and staying IC into the small hours of Sunday morning, so players can then get some kip before going home.
Any advice on running horror based events?
The thing to remember here is that there is a scientific reason behind everything, but that didn't hold Alien back, but how can I get a good horror event on a small LRP budget? I don't want the characters to save the Earth, or save the universe, just survive the weekend and get back home.
Being modern, sci-fi and horror it's well out of my comfort zone so any specific advice in these areas would be very much appreciated.

No advise but I think it sounds a great idea. If there wasonly something we could do with my 9 year old nephew we'd definatly have a new recruit in the shape of my sister. For this particularly and SG in general.

Don't show them the bad guy.
Horror in the movies is always scariest when you can't see the monster.
This holds especially true in a lowish budget LARP. Glowing eyes in the woods are dead scary. Finding out it's some guy with LEDs strapped to the side of his head is less so.
When your out in the woods, by yourself, at night, when you know things are out there, but can't see them, then that is the time for fear. A player's imagination will do a lot better at scaring them than any amount of props, so try to just help the imagination along.
