As a comparison, how many of you can name the chairman of the UK Labour Party?

The Chair of the Party or the Chair of the NEC?

And, to be fair, (at least until recently) I bet loads of people could've named the Chair of the Party.  They just wouldn't have realised she was Chair of the Party!

Half the people in the country probably couldn't name the leader of the Opposition never mind the corrupt the champagne socialist who chairs Labour. Mind you, at least she's better than the greasy-pole-climbing botoxed robotic sycophant who preceded her.

I dunno, I think most people in the country have an awareness of at least the "celebrity" end of politics -- your Browns and Camerons.  Sure, that awareness falls away very quickly when you look at the Lib Dems or smaller parties, but nevertheless in areas with strong local parties (of any flavour) awareness on the ground is usually pretty high.

My experience (I spend lots of time talking to the electorate in different parts of the country about politics) does not bear this out. I am constantly amazed by the staggering levels of ignorance about politics - there are a great many people who never (and I mean never) watch or listen to the news and who never pay any attention to politics in the paper (if they read one).

Hmm.  I also spend lots of time talking to the electorate, albeit only usually in my local area, and that isn't my experience.  Perhaps it's just a geographical/socioeconomic thing, though.
