I was talking to someone the other day and they asked how many horror LRP games are there out there.  I realised I had no idea but suspected not many.

So, I thought I would encourage anyone who runs or has played in a horror game to post the details of the game here including a website if available.

I guess I should define what I mean by horror.  In this case, I would say usually the game would usually be set in modern or near-modern times (Victorian or after), have a horror theme and one of the purposes is to give the players a fright.  However, I would not too worried about this.  If you think a game qualifies in some way, post it up and tell us about it.

Start off with my own games.  Presidium LRP run two games:

Dark Secrets, a modern day 'victim' horror game, which follows the exploits of the Orpheus Project, a parapsychology investigation team (plus film crew) who's ghost hunts have uncovered some dark spirits and chilling conspiracies.  The website is www.darksecrets.org.uk.

Aspects of Evil, a slightly futuristic 'action' horror game, where the players are a troubleshooting Response Team working to a 'morally challenged' multinational corporation call NWI, who are called in when the company's cutting edge research into genetics, medicine, weapons technology and metaphysics go wrong.  The game is heavily influenced by Resident Evil, the players tend to be well-armed, hence the 'action horror' tag, but it is still firmly a horror game.  The website is www.aspectsofevil.org.uk.

So, what else is out there?  If you run or know about a horror game, I would like to know more about ...

Zombie Bloodfest, which has evolved into Bloodfest.

Heavily influenced by the 28 Days Later / Resident Evil genre of movies.

Another event is in the early stages of planning, probably for 2009, keep 'em peeled!

We run "Dark Times" which is a medieval low fantasy horror.

We've only run 4 so far and having lost about £200 on 3 of them (breaking even on the other one), whether we'll do more is debatable

We're in the process of setting up a new game which is horror themed but is based on Night Watch, so the players are the "horror" so that doesnt really count

Terror4fun, UK Zombie LARP group which does Zombie Fest, is another group of horror LARPers for the list.

We have run about 5 big events and have also appeared on Channel 4 (3 Minute Wonder on New Years Eve 2007), in SFX magazine, the Metro and various horror mags.

If you want to see how an LRP group can suddenly go crazy and end up being a major make up resource and film review site then please check us out at www.terror4fun.com or simply type 'terror4fun' into Google and see what happens...

It's all gone a bit mental...

Also did the make up demo at last years Foreign Field Kit Fair in Elsecar , last Feb if any of you caught it ???

Would love to find out what you think...

Catch you soon and keep zomming...

Fear of the Dark - http://www.fotd.findingviews.com/

A modern day horror larp based in Wales but holds weekend events around the UK, usually in the  winter / autumn months. Event scenarios can vary from Alien's abductions to flesh eating Zombie's.

Might as well...

Zombie, a collection of horror games based around surviving and/or combating the Zombie threat. Based in Norwich and operating out of a large two-level structure. Events run from late afternoon to early morning the next day using a series of different scenarios for players to participate in, ensuring that a) there are enough Zombies and b) everyone gets a go at being a hero.

We use NERF guns and larpsafe melee weapons, and there are no rules for skills or character progression - it occasionally feels more like a simulation than a game. There are very few calls and no active GMs "in the field."

Cult, the next event, takes place on the 12th of April. Occasionally-updated Blog is here and Wiki with rules, background and sign-up information is here.
