Right you bunch of cunts, has what was once regarded as the most obscene word in the english language* now just become a word to decribe "a bit of a wide boy" as evidenced in the internet vs. the real world thread.
*though you know, If we are talking meanings I think "hate" "murder" and "death" are probably more obscene concepts

| Yes along with most sex related words which were once considered obscene, maybe because sexual swear words are less offensive to our society than race or disability related ones?

Well it only gained real offensiveness in the mid-17th century, and before that was just a word. Since it only became a rude word due to the fact that it referred to the vagina, and since then most normal people have recognised that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with the possession of beef curtains, I should consider this more a return to the status quo after a period of squeamish prurience.

| Any one who read the Wife of Bath at School will be fully aware that Chaucer used it all the time. People are still offended by it. When I used the word in the internet v real life thread I used it to imply the insulting meaning not the 'wideboy' image. I meant objectionable, rude git.

But I think that as more people recognise that having a cunt is not a bad or dirty thing, the usage of the word cunt to describe bad or dirty things will accordingly diminish, though somewhat later. Is it used in the Vagina Monologues?

| Some people prefer the term cunt. There was a programme not so long back about words and cunt came up in the 'C' category. German Greer preferred the term cunt as a good honest Anglo Saxon term. However Germain didn't like the term vagina, which seems to be socially acceptable. Vagina originates from latin for Scabbard/Sheath implying (according to Germain) that her vagina was just a scabbard/sheath for a mans 'sword'. I personally prefer the term pink paradise.

Undoubtedly Ms. Greer developed a positive association with the word 'Cunt' because, in combination with the word 'fatuous', it has been used to describe her so often.
Incidentally, much as she resents the idea that her genitals should be defined by their enveloping quality, she also resents the idea that a homosexual man might use his anus in an ersatz capacity, and in one article I read claimed that homosexuality among men was immoral and should be condemned purely because, by engaging in anal sex, they make beastly mockery, and enfringe the sacred right and duty, of women as the receptive gender. Presumably therefore she would like to see women controlling the means of male sexual gratification in a monopoly of sorts, witholding and besowing orgasm upon their grateful man-herds as they see fit. I suppose she'd like me to stop wanking, too? That'll be the day!
