A follow-up campaign to the highly successful and much acclaimed Summer Kingdoms, this the first WK event was run on the Weekend 23-25th November at John Lee's Scout camp.

The event is set in post Arthurian Britain with the lands of the Britain’s being overrun or attacked by the Saxon's, Norse and the Picts.

The players comprising warriors, druids, scribes and gesith from the 9 kingdoms of Britain, came together to raise a war band not seen since the times of Arthur, to stand against the foe.

It was a suitably gritty and dark low fantasy event with heroic combat, lovely props and kit all round and a high level of immersion from all involved.

We were fed very well and accommodated in heated bunkrooms with clearly split IC and OOC indoor areas and plenty of excellent IC space outside.

The event centered around the choosing of the war band and it's leaders, alongside the ceremony of the changing of the seasons which the characters were encouraged to come up with themselves.

There was plenty of combat against the never ending hordes of Saxons and lots of politicking and intrigue for those that thrive on that sort of thing as well, plenty of what went on was pvp as well as the crew generated plot and encounters.

I would urge and encourage anyone interested in gritty low fantasy to give it a try, but I won't because space is strictly limited and we found it hard enough to get the few remaining spaces on this event... So, whilst it is fab and excellent I heartily recommend that if you want to come along, do please join the crew, they appeared to have as much fun as the players did ;-)

Cheers to the WK team for an excellent event and the amazing food
Cheers to the crew for every once of rp-fu they generated for us
Cheers to all the other players for putting up with the Mouth of Rheged

It was very cool

I think the organisers didn't bother to push it too much publicity wise because they had filled the 20 spaces and a couple more within about a week of deciding to organise it, I was lucky enough to get an email from Simon Orchard saying "They are running WK, make sure you come" so I did, thanks Simon!

They now have a web presence: http://www.winterkingdoms.co.uk/

And there is a facebook group called winter kingdoms as well, where hopefully some photo's of event 1 will turn up sooner or later.
