Yeah, but on the bright side, the Emperor is at least defending us from Chaos and the Tyranids and all that...

Exactly! and anyway space marines are cool

Yeah, sorry- forgot about that, along with the terrorists, perverts and pinko liberals who're ruining this once great nation of ours!

Sorry- the idea of George W  (or any of his successors) having access to "super robot soldiers" kind of takes the shine of any "boys own" fantasies about heroic warriors defending us all from griblies.

His apologists would argue (as would the Emperor's) that he's the lesser of two evils. Yeah, they're quite scary, and they'll doubtless be abused -- but I'm reminded of one of my favourite T-shirt slogans: "Fuck off hippy -- Tanks are cool!"

But then as his apologists are either brain dead as well or even more corrupt than he is I don't have a lot of faith in that argument.

Surely the major stumbling block is that they blatantly cant make a power pack small enough to run the thing to be of any use....

Ill be interested when it doesnt have to be connected to cables......

According to a recent New Scientist, the US military is mad keen to get orbital solar power stations going, so that power can be beamed down not only to remote military bases but also directly to troops in the field... give it 20 or 30 years, and you'll have your tele-operated, tele-powered humanoid robot soldiers.
