Hey folks, I've written an article about the place of Wikipedia in larp with tips on creating and editing larp-related articles:

http://larpguide.co.uk/pages/larp_articleview.asp?ID=65

I wrote it because I found myself getting in touch with a lot of larpers to discuss their contributions to Wikipedia, especially around whether their larp group should be represented. It seems like something people have a love-hate relationship with and could benefit from knowing more about.

Feedback welcome of course, and I'd be interested to hear your opinions on Wikipedia and experiences with larp-related articles.

Cheers,

Ryan

Ryan,

Interesting article, I'd never realised it was such a minefield. Saying that I've seen some pendantic editing of my points on their citing some glorified rules, so I guess I should have been aware.

Wiki's themselves can be really useful for organising other information, we use one for the Eos campaign.

would it be worth creating a seperate 'larpwiki', dedicated purely to larp?

Pagga had one, its probably still there on the closed site - http://www.pagga.net

We've looked into producing a Rule7 one, but at this stage its not been something James or I have time for.

The Pagga wiki was okay, but contributions to it were quite slow. It never reached a very cohesive stage, each page had quite a different style. I was quite happy with some of the pages I worked where I tried to show lots of points of view using quotes from Pagga posts as illustrations. The Immersion page is the best example: http://www.pagga.net/wiki/index.php?pagename=Immersion

There is an international larp wiki at www.larpwiki.org. It's still reasonably basic though, and I prefer Wikipedia's approach of demanding sources for statements. It's much harder to write for, but it means that as a reader you can trace where information has come from.

Managed to find the Pagga wiki- there's a link to it from larpwiki.org. Be warned if you're easily offended tho'- some unsavory shite has added porn links to a couple (at least) of the entries in the glossary.

At least they look like porn links, I didn't fancy checking where they went- draw your own conclusions as to the nature of the material that appeared to be on offer.
