Firstly hello and im new to this larp thing (first was a chutulu live a few nights ago and... well.... loved it), so ive been doing a wee bit of tinternet searching, and this seems to be the best place to find other events.
So the obvious question is: anything going on in the reading (or woking/guildford) area in the near future (preferably another horror stylely one, and not an action-combat one) and is there any more central list of whats going on (as opposed to searching through forums)?

The best place to look for events here is in the campaign boards at the bottom of the forum. At the moment there seems to be very little horror in the offing that I am aware of so you may need to see when the cthuhlu live group you were with are playing again. However, local unis are the best place to sniff around looking for games. If they have a RPG group or a LRP group then there is a chance that they run stuff or travel to stuff local to you.

Some non horror games have horror elements in them. Riftworld (next game somewhere in the Midlands) is sci fi horror, there are any number of Vampire games in the country and occasionally a freeform event based on something like CoC runs.

Sorry I can't be more help. I am not in your area so I don't know anything about local games. There are a few on here who are local to you and who may come on here and say hello.

Hello there, I'm based near Windsor!

Not much going on in our immediate area that is Horror LRP orientated as far as I can see. However Nyctophobia is a southern based Horror LRP. I haven't played it myself but a review of a recent event sounds good: http://forums.rule7.co.uk/Topic40165-38-1.aspx . Their website is: http://www.nyctophobia.org.uk/ they appear to run a fantasy/horror style LRP. Not sure if its quite what you are after and, as I say, I haven't played it so I've no idea if its good

Edit:

oh and it seems reading roleplay society do a post apocolyptic LRP. Not sure if they allow non students (many other uni's do): http://www.rdg.ac.uk/StUnion/GameRole/games.html

There was a uni larp in Oxford, with a novel fantasy setting.  A few of their regulars use this board, so I'll leave explaining it to them.

There use to be vampire and changeling larps in reading as part of CamUK. I don't know, but I would imagine at least something is still running there.

Horror games are much less common in the lrp world than fantasy, more people wanting to be heroes than torn apart by 'things from beyond' i guess

There are a couple i know of although not particularly near guildford and not hugely regular (2/4 times a year)

The Dark Door, 20's cthulhu based weekend games  - www.thedarkdoor.co.uk

Dark Secrets - modern day horror, so far sat afternoon to evening games - www.darksecrets.org.uk

Incidentally, i've done a lot of horror but also played Nyctophobia and i wouldnt describe their stuff as horror, more desperate getting the shit kicked out of you lowish fantasy but then i could just be jaded by too many pure horror games to be scared, other players said they were terrified.

Also add Aspects Of Evil, linked to DarkSecrets.

Have play this and DD, and they are fun, and very scary at times! (even for crew!)

in reply to Maz ("Not sure if they allow non students") i am a student at the (reading) uni, but the things the roleplay soc here puts on doesn't really catch my interest.

Nyctophobia - interested (though expensive...)
The Dark Door - even more interested (if only there was something on the site as to where the next is & how much...)
Dark Secrets - too far....
Aspects Of Evil - again it seems to be in Coventry, unfortunately this is just too far.... fun though it sounds

though i am looking for "symbolic combat" games (as wikipedia calls it)

Horror games tend to cost a bit more than other LRP, mostly down to sites as the style of game tends to require a better site than other forms, obviously costing more.

Dark Door games tend to be scattered all over, wherever a good site is but most of them will be a good distance from you but as with most game lifts can normally be arranged. The game in march is planned to be in northumberland i believe. As i say game price is mostly affected by the site and have ranged from £20 to £75 so far, average game/site £50 for a full weekend with accomodation and food.

It does not look like there is much that anyone knows about in your area you are interested.  You may need to decide whether you attend a local but uninteresting game, or a more distant game to your liking, or just not doing anything at the moment.

As an avid horror fan, I usually take what is available where and when it is available.

I can't give you many more suggestions, because I run Dark Secrets / Aspects of Evil and play Dark Door.

There is one game I have heard about recently, but I know nothing about it.  It is set in a nuclear bunker somewhere and costs £99.  Annoyingly, the exact location will not be posted until 1 month before the game, for reasons that escape me.  Find out more at:
