IDIOT'S GUIDE
The Maelstrom chat is an IRC chat channel, on irc.esper.net, channel #Maelfroth.
IRC can be accessed from:
Chatzilla (If using a Mozilla browser): http://chatzilla.hacksrus.com/
mIRC: http://www.mirc.com
Triilian: http://www.ceruleanstudios.com/
To connect, you will then need to type
"/server irc.esper.net", and wait for it to finish the processing, then "/join #maelfroth". This should connect you into the room.
Alternately, there is a simple applet to connect you directly to the chat: http://www.aquarionics.com/misc/cgiirc/irc.cgi
Follow the link, enter a name, choose irc.esper.net from the first drop down menu, choose #maelfroth from the second drop down menu, then hit 'login' and you'll be connected straight in to the chat.

Yup, for some reason the link brought me to an empty channel every time, but the Java version worked fine.

I've noticed people having connection problems with Aquarions link. The Java link isn't as reliable in use, but can offer an alternate if you're just being refused a connection.
